Appliance Host Server

You deploy the OVF file for the PlateSpin Transformation Manager Appliance on your own virtualization host server.

Requirement Details

Virtualization Host Server

  • VMware ESXi version 5.5 or later: The ESXi host must have a VMware enterprise license.
  • VMware vSphere Client 5.x or later: Use this tool to set up the hypervisor environment for the appliance VM.

Micro Focus recommends setting up NTP in accordance with the VMware Time Keeping Best Practices for Linux Guests (KB 1006427).

Virtual Machine

  • Static IPv4 Address
  • Minimum of 4 GB memory
  • Minimum of 2 vCPUs

Virtual Storage

  • Disk 1 Boot: Minimum 20 GB. The boot partition for the appliance stores the system files, including the guest operating system, all appliance-specific software, and the appliance system event logs that are stored in the /var directory.
  • Disk 2 /vastorage: Minimum 20 GB. The /vastorage partition stores the PlateSpin Transformation Manager software and PostgreSQL database, the appliance configuration information, and the Ganglia health metrics.

Appliance Management Console

Most of your management interaction with the PlateSpin Transformation Manager Appliance takes place through the browser-based PlateSpin Transformation Manager Appliance Management Console.

Supported Languages

PlateSpin Transformation Manager Web Interface supports English (En) and Japanese (Ja) languages in your web browser. Modify the Language setting in your web browser with your preferred language as the first in the list.

Ports and Firewalls

  • Appliance Management Console: port 9443 (secure).
  • Appliance Monitoring for Ganglia: port 8642 (secure), port 9080 (not secure).
  • PostgreSQL database: If you use a remote database, port 5432 (secure with SSL enabled).
  • SSH: port 22 (secure). Port 22 is disabled by default.

Ensure that you open the ports in all firewalls in your network between the PlateSpin Transformation Manager Appliance and the computers you use to access the appliance.


PTM Server Web Interface

User interaction with the PlateSpin Transformation Manager Server takes place through the browser-based PlateSpin Transformation Manager Web Interface.

PlateSpin Migrate Connector for PlateSpin Transformation Manager

PlateSpin Migrate Connector for PlateSpin Transformation Manager supports workload and host discovery, load-balances the assignment of migration jobs to PlateSpin Migrate servers, and manages communications for the execution and monitoring of transformation plans for your VMware migration projects.

Requirement Details

Host Server

PlateSpin Transformation Manager Appliance includes an instance of the PlateSpin Migrate Connector. It is pre-configured to work with the Transformation Manager server. You can use this Connector to migrate source workloads in the same network where you deploy the appliance.

You can also deploy Migrate Connector separately on your own servers running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) Service Pack 4 (SP4). You can deploy a Connector instance in each project’s network.

Ports and Firewalls

  • Polling and eventing communications: Port 61613 (not secure)

Ensure that you open the ports in all firewalls in your network for event communications:

  • PlateSpin Transformation Manager Appliance and the PlateSpin Migrate Connector instance’s host server assigned to the project
  • PlateSpin Migrate Connector host server and the PlateSpin Migrate servers in the project

Assignment

All Projects: You can assign single Migrate Connector at the server-level to be used by all projects. Access to project information is protected by role-based access in a multi-tenant environment.

Specific Projects: After you create projects, you can deploy multiple Migrate Connector instances and assign each one to a separate project. The Connector listens only to communications for its assigned project.


PlateSpin Migration Environment for Automated Data Center Migration

The PlateSpin Migration Environment allows you to automate many tasks for workload migration by combining PlateSpin Transformation Manager with PlateSpin Migrate Connector and one or more PlateSpin Migrate servers. You can plan and execute migrations of physical and virtual workloads to target VMs on VMware Cluster hosts.

Before you attempt to execute an automated migration, you must configure your PlateSpin Migration Environment for the project and ensure that the equipment is up and running:

  • PlateSpin Transformation Manager 1.1 project in Automated Mode
  • PlateSpin Migrate Connector 1.1 instance available to the project.
  • PlateSpin Migrate 12.2 servers assigned as Migration Server resources in the project.
  • Target VMware Cluster hosts (version 5.5 or higher) discovered and assigned as Host resources in the project

Before you attempt to execute import with automated discovery, you must configure your PlateSpin Discovery Environment for the project and ensure that the equipment is up and running:

  • PlateSpin Transformation Manager 1.1 project
  • PlateSpin Migrate Connector 1.1 instance available to the project

Ports and Firewalls for Workloads

  • Windows: ICMP and SMB port 445 or 139
  • Linux: ICMP and SSH port 22

Ensure that you open the ports in all firewalls in your network between the PlateSpin Migrate Connector and the source workloads and target hosts.


Supported for Automated Discovery

  • Source workloads discovered and planned in the project:
    • Physical machines with x86 and x64 architectures
