PowerRecon Installation Fails with Error Error 27519. Error updating XML file C:\Program Files\PlateSpin PowerRecon 3.1 Server\datalayer\DataSeed\PlateSpin.SeededData.Dat aSeed.exe.config. -2147024891

PowerRecon 3.1 and above

Situation

 

This article discusses an issue which may occur when trying to install PowerRecon 3.1 and above. The issue may occur when using a remote or local SQL 2005 Server. During the installation of PowerRecon 3.1 you receive an error message listed below and the installation fails.

 

During the installation process for PowerRecon 3.1 a connection to a database server is required. By default PowerRecon ships with postgre database server however the ability exists to configure it to use SQL 2005. When attempting to connect to a SQL 2005 Server you may receive the above error message and the installation will fail. This error message indicates that the SQL 2005 Server is not configured to allow connections using named pipes or tcp/ip. The ability for PowerRecon to connect to a SQL 2005 server requires that named pipes and tcp/ip be enabled.

Resolution

You must enable remote connections for each instance of SQL Server 2005 that you want to connect to from a remote computer. To do this, follow these steps:

 

1.

Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.

2.

On the SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration page, click Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections.

3.

On the Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections page, expand Database Engine, click Remote Connections, click Local and remote connections, click the appropriate protocol to enable for your environment, and then click Apply.

Note Click OK when you receive the following message:

Changes to Connection Settings will not take effect until you restart the Database Engine service.

4.

On the Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections page, expand Database Engine, click Service, click Stop, wait until the MSSQLSERVER service stops, and then click Start to restart the MSSQLSERVER service.
