Fake Physical Migration to Hyper-V Stalls at Uninstalling Controller

Environment

PlateSpin Migrate 12.2.1

Situation

When migrating a Windows 2003 and 2008 workloads as a fake physical to a Microsoft Hyper-V, the job stalls or goes into a recoverable error at the step "Uninstalling Controller".
Work-Around Manual steps for Windows-2k3 and 2k8 Workload Migrations via X2P style on to Hyper-V.


Resolution

1.

Prerequisite:

1.       Install 7-zip in your migrate server

Steps:

2.       Login to the Hyper-v Target machine and navigate to C:\Windows\System32
3.       Extract “vmguest.iso”. And copy the “support” folder to your migrate server

4.      
Open your Migrate client and open “Tools” from the menu and select “Manage device drivers”

5.      
Select the required “OS type” (windows2003/windows2003x64). now Click on the “field chooser” and select the “package ID”

6.      
Click on row below “contains”  under  “ PnpID ”  column and search for “ vmbus\{ba6163d9-04a1-4d29-b605-72e2ffb1dc7f}

7.      
After the result go the corresponding “package ID” and note all the package ID

8.      
Go to, C:\Program Files\PlateSpin Migrate Server\Packages and search all Package IDs one by one that you have noted from step-6. Open the folder and right click on “1.package” and select 7-zip>Open archive

9.      
Copy Paste the “support” folder from Step-2 and close it. Now user should be able to perform Migrations successfully.

Additional Information

A compression utility (such as 7-zip) may be needed on the PlateSpin server.
