3.0 Contents of the Download Package

AppManager for Microsoft SharePoint Server includes Windows PowerShell scripts and AppManager Knowledge Scripts to discover and monitor Microsoft SharePoint Server resources. The download package includes this Readme, a management guide, Help for Knowledge Scripts, and several files that are used during installation:

  • AM70-SharePoint-7.5.117.0.msi, the module installer.

  • AM70-SharePoint-7.5.117.0.ini, a configuration file used with the AppManager setup program.

  • AM70-SharePoint-7.5.117.0.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center. This is the file you check into the Control Center Web Depot.

  • AM70-SharePoint-7.5.117.0-RepositoryFiles.exe, a compressed file that contains the QDB and console files. You do not need to run this file during installation.

  • DefaultRule_SharePoint.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center.

  • ckSharePoint.exe, the pre-installation check used with the AppManager setup program.

When you download the module, these files are copied by default to the local folder on the download computer. Consider copying these files to the \windows_installation\setup\Setup Files folder on the same distribution computer on which you saved your main AppManager software and documentation. By doing so, you maintain all AppManager software in one location that is easily accessible when you want to add more repositories, management servers, or agents.

4.0 Installing This Module

IMPORTANT:If you are upgrading from the previous release version, you need to perform additional steps to ensure that the latest version is installed correctly. For more information, see the "Upgrading from previous Version of the Module" section in the management guide.

Run the module installer to install the module components in the following locations:

  • On the SharePoint computers you want to monitor (agents) to install the agent components

  • On all console computers to install the Help and console extensions

Run the module installer only once on each of these computers.

You must also install the Knowledge Scripts. You can install these components into local or remote QDBs. When installing to the primary QDB, select the option to install Knowledge Scripts, and then specify the SQL Server name of the server hosting the QDB, as well as the case-sensitive QDB name.

IMPORTANT:If you use Control Center 7.x, run the module installer for each QDB attached to Control Center. If you use Control Center 8.x or later, run the module installer only for the primary QDB, and Control Center will automatically replicate this module to secondary QDBs

Install Knowledge Scripts only once per QDB. The module installer now installs Knowledge Scripts for each module directly into the QDB instead of to the \AppManager\qdb\kp folder as in previous releases.

For more information about installing this module, see the AppManager for Microsoft SharePoint Server Management Guide, included in the download package.

5.0 Known Issues

NetIQ Corporation strives to ensure our products provide quality solutions for your enterprise software needs. AppManager for Microsoft SharePoint had no known issues at the time of release. If you need further assistance with any issue, please contact Technical Support.

  • When you install or upgrade this module using remote deployment, AppManager creates SharePoint tasks for all available agents. When you deploy the module on a remote computer where the agent is installed, and version 7.2 of the module is already checked into Control Center, AppManager creates SharePoint tasks for all available agents, including agents without SharePoint installed. To work around this issue, before you check in the XML files for version 7.4 of the SharePoint module, remove the following files from Control Center: DefaultRule_SharePoint.xml and AM70-SharePoint2007-7.2.483.0.xml. (DOC324543)

  • In AppManager 8, you must run the EventLog Knowledge Script jobs on a SharePoint server. If you are using AppManager 8, you cannot run the following Knowledge Script jobs on the FAST Search Server or on a Windows computer without SharePoint installed: SharePoint_ContentManagementEventLog, SharePoint_GenericEventLog, SharePoint_InfoPathEventLog, and SharePoint_SiteEventLog. When you run the EventLog Knowledge Script jobs on those servers, the SharePoint module displays an error that it failed to load the job from the AppManager repository (QDB). To work around this issue, delete these Knowledge Scripts from the QDB and check them in again. If you already ran the jobs on the FAST Search Server or on a Windows computer without SharePoint, stop the jobs manually. Then delete the Knowledge Scripts from the QDB and check them in again. You can check them in by running the module installer or by using the Check in Knowledge Script feature in the Operator Console or Control Center. (ENG321624)

  • In AppManager 8, the Data Collection parameter in the SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script should not be selected by default. When you install version 7.4 of the SharePoint module on an AppManager 8 repository (QDB) that was previously running version 7.2 of the module, the Data Collection parameter in the SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script is selected. To work around this issue, manually check in the SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script, or open the Properties window of the Knowledge Script and uncheck the Data Collection parameter in the Values tab. (DOC324679)

  • AppManager 8 Service Pack 1 does not support full paths for SharePoint Knowledge Scripts. If AppManager 8 Service Pack 1 (8.0.1) is installed on the repository (QDB) computer, you cannot run the following Knowledge Script jobs that are set to full path: SharePoint_ContentManagementEventLog, SharePoint_GenericEventLog, SharePoint_InfoPathEventLog, and SharePoint_SiteEventLog. To work around this issue, install AppManager 8 Service Pack 2 (8.0.2) on the QDB computer before you install the QDB component of AppManager for Microsoft SharePoint Server. If you installed the SharePoint module before upgrading to AppManager 8 Service Pack 2 (8.0.2), re-install the QDB component of the SharePoint module. (DOC321316)

  • The SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo Knowledge Script sometimes does not calculate the value for the utilization percentage of a site. If a Web application uses the "No Quota" option in a site collection, and in the SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo Knowledge Script you set a value for calculating the site's utilization, the script will raise events but will collect a data value of 0. The utilization percentage will be 0 instead of the actual percentage. (DOC324420)

  • The SharePoint_WebPagePerf Knowledge Script displays unknown characters for the site collection user account in the report. When you run the WebPagePerf knowledge script for the site collection and if huge files are uploaded to the site collection, then events are raised in the report with the user account displayed as username along with unknown characters. This is an issue with SharePoint 2013. (DOC328366)

  • The SharePoint_SiteUsage Knowledge Script job is unable to generate usage reports by operating system. Microsoft Corporation currently does not support creating reports based on the operating system. When you run a SharePoint_SiteUsage Knowledge Script job and you select "OS" report type, the SharePoint module does not generate a report. NetIQ Corporation is currently working with Microsoft Corporation to resolve this issue. (ENG295122)

  • The SharePoint_SiteUsage Knowledge Script displays blank event reports for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013. When you run the SiteUsage Knowledge Script, blank events are raised in Control Center/Operator Console because the data points for site usage is unavailable in SharePoint 2013 server. NetIQ Corporation is currently working with Microsoft Corporation to resolve this issue. (ENG328115)

  • The Control Center Navigation pane and Operator Console TreeView do not display new content databases with the same name as existing databases. If the SharePoint Discovery Knowledge Script job has discovered a content database and you then create a new content database with the same name as the discovered database, but on another SQL server, the Navigation pane (in Control Center) or TreeView (in Operator Console) does not display the new content database when you run the Discovery job again. To work around this issue, in the SharePoint view, remove all SharePoint objects from the Navigation pane or TreeView and run the SharePoint Discovery Knowledge Script job again. (ENG323719)

  • The SharePoint Discovery Knowledge Script does not discover extended Web applications. SharePoint Discovery does not discover and add extended Web applications to the Control Center Navigation pane or Operator Console TreeView, including Intranet, Internet, Custom, and Extranet sites. The SharePoint module does monitor those Web applications through their parent Web application. (ENG295161)

  • The SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script cannot restart certain SharePoint Search services. If you use SharePoint Central Administration to stop specific SharePoint Search services, SharePoint renames the services and changes the startup type to Disabled. The SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script does not start services with a startup type of Disabled, so the SharePoint_HealthCheck script does not restart any of these services in this situation. You must manually restart the services through SharePoint Central Administration. The affected services are: Windows SharePoint Services Help Search service and Office SharePoint Server Search service (for SharePoint Server 2007), and SharePoint Foundation Search v4 service and SharePoint Server Search 14 service (for SharePoint Server 2010). (ENG263530)

  • An error occurs if you try to provision certain SharePoint Search services when the servers are in the domain. When the SharePoint servers are in the domain, the Server Role for the following services is always null: Office SharePoint Server Search service (for SharePoint Server 2007) and SharePoint Server Search 14 service (for SharePoint Server 2010). The SharePoint module raises an error message when you try to provision them. (ENG263530)

  • Certain SharePoint Knowledge Scripts do not raise events when the report contains a large number of records. The following Knowledge Scripts do not raise events or collect data if the related report exceeds 30,000 rows: SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo, SharePoint_SiteInfo, SharePoint_SiteUsage, SharePoint_WebPartInfo, and SharePoint_WebPagePerf, and all EventLog Knowledge Scripts where the event log details are too large. (ENG296431)

  • Control Center creates another deployment task event if the module was already installed on some of your servers. If the SharePoint module is already installed on some of your servers and you create a deployment task to install it on additional servers, Control Center creates another deployment task to install the module. However, installation only proceeds when you activate it. (ENG295516)

6.0 Previous Releases

This release of Microsoft SharePoint Server includes enhancements added in previous releases.

6.1 Release 7.5.86.0, December 2013

This release of AppManager for Microsoft SharePoint Server provides the following enhancements:

  • Support for Microsoft SharePoint 2013. This release now supports Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 along with Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. For more information, see System Requirements.

  • Support for Microsoft Windows Server 2012. This release now supports Microsoft Windows Server 2012. For more information, see System Requirements.

This release of AppManager for SharePoint Server resolves the following issues:

  • The SharePoint_SiteUsage Knowledge Script does not show detail data from sites and an XML error is displayed. This release resolves an issue in which the SiteUsage Knowledge Script raises an event without displaying the detail data for site collection and an XML error is displayed in Operator Console/Control Center. With this release, the SiteUsage Knowledge Script includes two new parameters, The maximum number of records to display and Include detail report, to display the detail data report in the chart. (ENG328525)

  • The SharePoint_SiteUsage, IsolatedApps, HealthCheck, and SiteUsage Knowledge Scripts do not send Event mails to the recipients mentioned in Action_SMTPMail. This release resolves an issue in which Event mails are not sent to the recipients even when the details are provided for the Action_SMTPMail option. With this release, Event mails are sent to all the recipients for each Web application and an Action tab is included in the event message with information about the SMTP mail that is sent to each recipient. (ENG326794)

  • The SharePoint_SiteUsage Knowledge Script is not processed correctly in Analysis Center. This release resolves an issue in which all data streams are processed or mapped to the machine object in Analysis Center instead of the site URL. With this release, the metric in Analysis Center is displayed under the respective site URLs. (ENG332009)

6.2 Release 7.4.284.0, November 2012

This release of AppManager for Microsoft SharePoint Server provided the following enhancements:

  • Support for Microsoft SharePoint 2007 and 2010. This release now supports both Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. For more information, see the System Requirements.

  • Reorganization of objects in the Control Center Navigation pane and Operator Console TreeView. In this release, the Control Center Navigation pane and Operator Console TreeView display content databases under their associated Web applications instead of in separate folders.

  • The SharePoint_DBSpaceUtil Knowledge Script includes new event parameters for monitoring the space used by a SharePoint content database. You can now use this script to monitor the amount of space, in megabytes, that a SharePoint content database uses.

  • The SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script starts SharePoint Services with the startup type Manual. In the previous version, the SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script started services with a startup type of Automatic. This script now starts services with a startup type of Manual or Automatic. In addition, data collection for site availability now returns two values, 0 or 100, instead of 0, 50, or 100.

  • The SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo Knowledge Script includes new event parameters. The SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo Knowledge Script now allows you to do the following tasks: exclude specific site collections and Web applications from monitoring, set a value to calculate site utilization when a site quota is not configured, and delete all information from the Recycle Bin on a SharePoint server in the first or second Recycle Bin stage.

  • The new SharePoint_ContentDatabaseAccessibility Knowledge Script monitors the accessibility of SharePoint content databases for the Web applications running on the SharePoint server. This script raises an event when the content databases on the SharePoint server or SQL servers are not accessible. You can specify the content databases to exclude from monitoring.

  • The new SharePoint_DBSiteCount Knowledge Script monitors the number of site collections on each SharePoint content database in the server farm. This script raises an event when the number of site collections on each content database exceeds the maximum threshold.

  • The new SharePoint_ExtendedWebApplications Knowledge Script monitors the extended Web applications in the server farm. This script generates events and collects data for the Web applications that are extended in the server farm, on an Intranet, Internet, Extranet, or Custom site. You can specify Web applications to exclude from monitoring.

  • The new SharePoint_FASTSearchServerStatus Knowledge Script monitors the status of the SharePoint FAST Search Server in SharePoint Server 2010. This script monitors the availability of the FAST Search server, the number of queries per minute, the number of searches per second, and the number of failed queries.

  • The new SharePoint_HealthAnalyzer Knowledge Script monitors the SharePoint Health Analyzer tool, a feature in SharePoint Server 2010. The Health Analyzer tool allows you to schedule automatic checks for configuration, performance, and usage problems in the SharePoint server farm. This script monitors Health Analyzer health rule categories, and allows you to specify rules to exclude from monitoring. This script raises an event when the Health Analyzer tool generates rule execution failure, error, warning, or information events.

  • The new SharePoint_MailServerStatus Knowledge Script monitors the status of the mail server in the server farm. This script raises an event when the SMTP server is not configured in the SharePoint server farm or when the SMTP server is not available.

  • The new SharePoint_SearchStatus Knowledge Script monitors the Search service and crawl status in the server farm. This script monitors default Search services and raises an event when the heartbeat of the Search service or the crawl status is down.

  • The new SharePoint_SiteCollectionUserCount Knowledge Script monitors the number of users in a site collection. This script monitors the following user types: All Users, Site Users, and Users. It raises an event when the count for each of the user types exceeds the threshold.

  • The new SharePoint_VisualModeSiteCount Knowledge Script monitors the number of Visual Mode sites for each Web application, site collection, and sub-site on Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. This script raises an event when the number of visual or non-visual sites exceeds the threshold.

  • The new SharePoint_WebApplicationUptime Knowledge Script monitors the uptime of Web applications on the SharePoint server. This script replaces the ServiceUptime Knowledge Script in previous releases, and raises an event if the uptime for Web applications falls below the threshold.

This release also resolved the following issues:

  • SharePoint_DBSpaceUtil and SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script jobs fail when system restarted. This release resolves an issue in which the SharePoint_DBSpaceUtil and SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script jobs failed if the SharePoint server was restarted while the jobs were running at short intervals. The SharePoint_DBSpaceUtil and SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script jobs now continue running correctly after restarting the SharePoint server. (ENG265897)

  • The Report Agent does not discover a SharePoint server running on a case-sensitive repository. This release resolves an issue in which the Report Agent did not correctly discover the SharePoint server on a case-sensitive AppManager repository (QDB). With this release, the Report Agent discovers the SharePoint server on case-sensitive repositories. (ENG264768)

  • Some Knowledge Script jobs might take longer than expected to complete. This release resolves an issue in which certain Knowledge Script jobs took more time than expected to stop while the jobs completed their internal processes. It also resolves an issue in which running a group of Knowledge Script jobs concurrently on 64-bit platforms might have caused the gradual loss of available virtual memory. This release uses PowerShell scripts throughout the module, which resolves both issues. (ENG267513, ENG254614)

  • After you upgrade to the SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script, you need to run the new SharePoint_HealthCheck job to monitor any updated services. This release resolves an issue in which you needed to run the SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script job after you upgraded the script. With this release, you no longer need to run the SharePoint_HeatlthCheck job after upgrading, and the SharePoint module successfully monitors SharePoint services, restarts services that are stopped, and raises events. (DOC261310, ENG260662)

  • The SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script generates events on the Master tab but not on the SharePoint tab for case-sensitive repositories. Previously, for case-sensitive AppManager repositories, the SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script did not generate events on the SharePoint tab, and did not generate separate events for each service. With this release, the SharePoint_HealthCheck Knowledge Script generates events on both the SharePoint and Master tabs. It also generates separate events for each service, instead of generating a single event with child events. (DOC267007, ENG266235)

  • The SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo Knowledge Script works only if a quota has been defined for the Web application. This release resolves an issue in which the SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo Knowledge Script did not work on Web applications with the "No Quota" option. The SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo script now generates events for Web applications that use the "No Quota" option. For sites without a defined quota, if you specify a maximum site size greater than 0, the SharePoint module can now calculate the utilization percentage using the Site Size value you set. (ENG258493, ENG293455)

  • The SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo Knowledge Script does not calculate the data based on an updated site quota value. This release resolves an issue in which the SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo Knowledge Script continued to use the original quota value to calculate data after you changed the quota. With this release, the SharePoint_RecycleBinInfo Knowledge Script calculates data based on the updated quota value. (ENG261133)

  • The SharePoint_SiteInfo Knowledge Script does not raise an event if you run the script on a Web application that doesn't have any site collections. Previously, when you ran the SharePoint_SiteInfo Knowledge Script job on a Web application with no site collections, the script did not raise an event. With this release, the SharePoint_SiteInfo Knowledge Script raises an event when the Web application has no site collections and when there is no data available for the Web application. (ENG258644)

  • The SharePoint_WebPartInfo Knowledge Script displays an error message when you run it on a My Site SharePoint site. This release resolves an issue in which the SharePoint_WebPartInfo Knowledge Script returned an error when you ran the script on a My Site site on a SharePoint Server. The SharePoint module now supports monitoring on a My Site site. Running the SharePoint_WebPartInfo Knowledge Script job now displays the available Web Parts for the My Site site. (ENG258492)

6.3 Release 7.2.480.0, September 2010

This release resolved the following issues:

  • Not all available resources are discovered. This release resolves an issue in which only some of all available SharePoint servers are discovered. The Discovery_SharePoint Knowledge Script job discovers virtual servers that are in "Ready" state, but fails to discover virtual servers in other valid states. With the code change in this release, the Discovery_SharePoint Knowledge Script job discovers virtual servers in any state other than "NotAdministerable." (ENG286503)

  • Running the Discovery_SharePoint Knowledge Script resulted in a "Discovery failed" error. When a SharePoint service is discovered that is not known to the module such as the “Project Application Service”, the following error message displays: Discovery failed with error (null) [Line: 93](null). This release addresses that issue. (ENG288992)

  • Running the Discovery_SharePoint Knowledge Script resulted in a partial discovery. This release addresses an instance where the Web Application's Description field was blank, resulting in a partial discovery needs to be enhanced to handle the case when the description field is blank. If the Description field is empty, AppManager will use a different property instead, such as the name property, resulting in a complete discovery process. (ENG291599)

6.4 Release 7.2.483.0, January 2011

This release of AppManager for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server resolved an issue in which running the IsolatedApps Knowledge Script failed, generating an "Unable to Create Object" error message. (ENG299065)

6.5 Release 7.2.480.0, September 2010

(ENG291599)

6.6 Release 7.2.465.0, May 2009

This release provided the following enhancements:

  • Support for installation in a distributed environment. In previous releases, AppManager only supported installations of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server on a single server. In this release, AppManager supports the installation of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server on multiple servers in a distributed environment, also known as a server farm.

  • Support for 64-bit Microsoft Windows Server 2003 environments. This release supports the monitoring of 64-bit Microsoft Windows Server 2003 environments.

  • Discovery of SharePoint databases in different SQL instances. This release supports the discovery of SharePoint databases in different SQL instances. This new support creates new objects for these databases in the TreeView pane. Remember to run the DBSpaceUtil Knowledge Script on the new objects.

The following Knowledge Scripts were updated for this release:

  • Discovery_SharePoint. The parameters and descriptive text now reflect new terminology used by Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. (DOC251548)

  • HealthCheck. This Knowledge Script now checks the status of all active SharePoint services and sites on your SharePoint Server, and it can start a stopped service or site. This script raises events if a service or site stops, fails to start, or stops and then starts again. This script also raises events for blocked I/O requests. (ENG254395)

  • SiteInfo. This Knowledge Script now allows you to specify the number of reports you want to display using a record count parameter in the script. (DOC260946)

  • WebPagePerf. This Knowledge Script now monitors the log file in megabytes (MB) instead of the previous setting of kilobytes (KB). Also, the maximum bandwidth threshold for this script is now 4096 MB. (ENG262243, DOC263094)

  • SiteInfo, SiteUsage, WebPagePerf, and WebPartInfo. Some of the default parameter settings for these Knowledge Scripts were updated for improved performance with data collection and event management when no data is found. (DOC263916)

6.7 Release 7.1.18 (Hotfix 71284), October 2008

This release provided the following enhancements:

  • Discovery places all databases into a single instance of Microsoft SQL Server. Before you install this release, when you run the discovery process, the process completes successfully, but it places all of the SharePoint databases into a single instance of SQL, when in reality the databases are spread among multiple instances. After you install this release, the discovery process correctly places the SQL instances for all SharePoint databases. (ENG251489).
