Product Description

PlateSpin Migrate is a workload portability solution that automates the movement of server workloads—operating systems along with their applications and data—over the network among physical servers, virtual hosts, and image archives. PlateSpin Migrate remotely decouples workloads from the underlying server hardware and streams them to and from physical or virtual hosts, all from a single point of control.

PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 enhances the Web Interface to allow migration of workloads to Microsoft Azure.

This release is supported by a Web-based documentation set. You can view the product documentation online or download individual PDF files according to your information needs. Visit the PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 Documentation website.

Key Features

  • Support for Migration of Workloads to Cloud

PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 enhances the Web Interface to let you migrate the following Windows and Linux workloads to Microsoft Azure:

    • Windows
      • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
      • Microsoft Windows Server 2012
      • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
    • Linux
      • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.1
      • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.7
      • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11 SP4
      • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11 SP3
  • See "Working with the PlateSpin Migrate Web Interface" in the PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 User Guide.

  • Support for Migration of Workloads to Target VMs on Microsoft Hyper-V Hosts Using Migrate Command Line Interface

PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 enhances the Migrate Command Line Interface to let you migrate workloads to VMs on target Microsoft Hyper-V hosts in addition to the existing support for migration of workloads to target VMs on VMware host. See "Using the PlateSpin Migrate Command Line Interface" in the PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 User Guide.

  • Support for Synchronization of Discovered Workloads and Target Hosts between the Migrate Client and the Web Interface

PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 enhances the Migrate Client to automatically synchronize workloads and target hosts it discovers to the Web Interface.

  • Support for Ensuring Data Consistency between Source and Target at Cutover

PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 introduces an option that lets you to permanently stop Windows services on the source workload throughout the cutover process to ensure application data consistency between the source workload and the target machine. These services are not restored even after the cutover process is complete. See "Configuring the Workload for Migration" in the PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 User Guide.

  • Workload Support

    • Windows Workload
      • Windows Server 2012 R2 Cluster

    • Linux Workloads
      • CentOS 7
      • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.2, 7.1 (Only BIOS-based workloads are supported)
      • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.7 (Only BIOS-based workloads are supported)
      • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11 SP4 (Only BIOS-based workloads are supported)

See "Supported Configurations" in the PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 User Guide.

  • Utility to Install Block-Based Transfer Drivers on a Windows Machine

PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 introduces a new command line utility (MigrateAgent.cli.exe) that lets you install, upgrade, query, or uninstall the block-based transfer drivers.

Although a reboot is always required when you install, uninstall, or upgrade drivers, this utility allows you to better control when the action occurs and therefore, when the server reboots. For example, you can use the utility to install the drivers during scheduled down time, instead of during the first replication.

See "MigrateAgent Utility" in the PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 User Guide.

  • VMware Enhancements

PlateSpin Migrate 12.1 includes the following enhancements for a target VM on a VMware host:

    • Enhanced support for migration of workloads to a VMware DRS cluster.
    • Support for specifying the number of CPU sockets and the number of CPU cores per socket for the target VM.
  • Security
  • The GLIBC version in this release addresses vulnerability CVE 2015-7547, a stack-based buffer overflow in the getaddrinfo() function in the glibc DNS client-side.

File Description

Filename Usage
PhysicalTarget-12.1.zip Contains the compressed file bootofx.x2p.iso, which is used to boot BIOS or UEFI firmware-based physical targets during a semi-automated migrations and semi-automatic Server Sync operation. The semi-automatic migration is used to transfer the workload to a physical machine that has been registered in PlateSpin Migrate. This registration occurs when you boot the target physical machine with the PlateSpin Migrate boot ISO image and register with the PlateSpin Server by following the prompts.

PlateSpinMigrateSetup-12.1.0.xxx.exe

(where xxx denotes the number of the build that is available for download. For example, PlateSpinMigrateSetup-12.1.0.260.exe installs PlateSpin Migrate version 12.1, build number 260.)
Use this PlateSpin Migrate setup executable to install the product. The program checks your system for the necessary prerequisites and interactively installs the required software components.
VolumeManager.exe

Use to change the local volume serial numbers to match on each node of the Windows cluster that you want to migrate. See Synchronizing Serial Numbers on Cluster Node Local Storage" in the PlateSpin Migrate User Guide.
