5.6 Configuring the People Search Module

The People Search module allows anyone to use the People Search option to search for people and view the details of the people. You can see details such as user name, email address, photo (if specified), and an organizational chart. The organizational chart displays the details of other users who report to the selected user (in a hierarchy) and also with the details of the user’s manager. The arrow displays the user’s level in the hierarchy.

Self Service Password Reset requires that the users who use People Search have read permission to view all the attributes that the People Search module displays. Self Service Password Reset uses wildcards or Ajax search (searching and displaying results while typing).

5.6.1 Enabling and Configuring the People Search Module

By default, the People Search module is not enabled. You must enable and configure the People Search module for your users to have access to it. There are also a number of features that are not enabled by default in the People Search module. Some of the features that you must enable are:

  • The organization chart view

  • Printing the organization chart

  • A link to email your team

  • The ability to export the organization chart

You must enable the People Search module and then configure the module to do what is appropriate for your environment.

To enable and configure the People Search module:

  1. Log in to Self Service Password Reset at https://dns-name/sspr as an administrator.

  2. In the toolbar, click your name.

  3. Click Configuration Editor.

  4. Click Modules > Authenticated > People Search.

  5. In the Enable People Search field, select Enable (True) to enable the People Search module.

  6. Configure the appropriate settings for your environment using the help.

  7. In the toolbar, click Save changes.

5.6.2 Configuring the Advanced Search Option in the People Search Module

You can configure Self Service Password Reset to allow users to search for their colleagues’ information and also configure the attributes the People Search module displays in the search result.

If the basic search is not enough for your users, you can enable an Advanced Search option in the People Search module.

  1. Log in to Self Service Password Reset at https://dns-name/sspr as an administrator.

  2. In the toolbar, click your name.

  3. Click Configuration Editor.

  4. Click Modules > Authenticated > People Search.

  5. In the Enable Advanced Search field, select Enable (True).

  6. To add the ability to select attributes to search:

    1. Click Modules > Authenticated > People Search.

    2. In the Search Attributes field, add the attributes the help desk administrators can use for searching.

    3. Change the option text to select to allow users to select the attribute in a search.

  7. In the toolbar, click Save changes.
