5.1 Upgrading the Self Service Password Reset Appliance

Depending on your current version of Self Service Password Reset, there are two different ways you can upgrade Self Service Password Reset.

5.1.1 Upgrading the Self Service Password Reset Appliance from 4.0

Upgrading the Self Service Password Reset appliance is a manual process and it is different that updating the appliance. Upgrading the appliance is when you move to another release rather than applying a update. For more information about updates, see Performing an Online Update in the Self Service Password Reset 4.2 Administration Guide.

To upgrade Self Service Password Reset from 4.0 to 4.1 or 4.2 is a manual process. Ensure that you follow all of the steps to complete the upgrade process.

To upgrade the appliance:

  1. Create a backup of your current configuration information.

    1. Log in to Self Service Password Reset at https://dns-name/sspr as an administrator.

    2. In the toolbar, click your name.

    3. Click Configuration Manager.

    4. Back up the configuration XML file.

      1. Under Configuration Activities, click Download Configuration.

      2. Save the SSPRConfiguration.xml file to a safe location.

  2. Download the new version of the Self Service Password Reset appliance.

  3. Deploy the new version of the Self Service Password Reset appliance. For more information, see Deploying the Self Service Password Reset Appliance.

  4. Restore the Self Service Password Reset configuration file. For more information, see Importing Configuration Information in the Self Service Password Reset 4.2 Administration Guide.

  5. Log in to Self Service Password Reset at https://dns-name/sspr as an administrator and verify that all of the configuration information is correct.

5.1.2 Upgrading Self Service Password Reset 4.1.0.5 to 4.2

You can upgrade Self Service Password Reset 4.1.0.5 appliance to 4.2 using the method listed above, or you can use a new feature that simplifies the upgrade process.

IMPORTANT:You must apply the latest updates to perform the upgrade. If you do not have the latest updates applied, the upgrade fails.

To Upgrade the 4.1.0.5 appliance to 4.2:

  1. Create a backup of your current configuration information.

    1. Log in to Self Service Password Reset at https://dns-name/sspr as an administrator.

    2. In the toolbar, click your name.

    3. Click Configuration Manager.

    4. Back up the configuration XML file.

      1. Under Configuration Activities, click Download Configuration.

      2. Save the SSPRConfiguration.xml file to a safe location.

  2. Log in to the appliance administration console as an administrator.

  3. Click Product Upgrade, then follow the prompts to upgrade the appliance.

  4. After the upgrade completes, log in to Self Service Password Reset to ensure that the upgrade completed successfully.
