12.1 Upgrading Security Agent for UNIX Using UAM

UAM provides a console to upgrade existing agents. You must first upgrade the UAM before upgrading your agents.

This section contains the following topics:

12.1.1 Upgrading UAM

This section contains the following topics:

Prerequisites

You must backup the agent information to a file. For more information, see Backing Up Agent Information to File

NetIQ supports the following upgrade path:

  • Upgrade from 7.4 to 7.5.

  • Upgrade from 7.5.0 to 7.5.1 and later.

Backing Up Agent Information to File

The UAM server stores information about all the agents you monitor, and this information can be exported to a file. NetIQ strongly recommends backing up this information before any activity that might affect your UAM server, such as an upgrade. A backup is also useful in situations when you want to move UAM to another computer or transfer your agent management from UAM to CG AM.

NOTE:This backup is a mandatory step if you are upgrading from UAM 7.4 to 7.5 or later.

To export your Agent list and configuration information, click Manage Hosts > Export/Import Host Lists in UAM.

To migrate hosts from UAM to CG AM when you have older agents that you installed using UAM and you want to manage those hosts using CG AM. For more information see, Section 5.0, Migrating Hosts from UAM to CG AM

If you are upgrading from UAM 7.4 to 7.5 or later, you should save your configuration information before you upgrade so that you can import it after you upgrade.

Due to security improvements introduced in 7.5.0, UAM 7.5.0 and later can only manage the Security Agent for UNIX 7.5.0 and later. To manage older agents until you upgrade them, retain an instance an older version of UAM (prior to 7.5.0).

To export the agent information from UAM, perform the following steps:

  1. In the left pane of UAM, click Agent Manager.

  2. Click Hosts > Edit Hosts.

  3. Select all the hosts in the Current Hosts list.

  4. Click Export Selected.

All the host information is exported from UAM.

Upgrading UAM 7.5 to 7.5.1 on Linux

Perform the following procedure to upgrade from UAM 7.5 to 7.5.1 version:

  1. Close all UAM 7.5 applications.

  2. Go to UAM 7.5.1 folder and upgrade UAM Linux 7.5 by running ./installserver.sh upgrade command.

  3. When prompted, specify the path on the UAM database, where UAM 7.5 database folder exists.

    Example: <UAM Directory>/UAM/UAMDB

  4. Start UAM 7.5.1 by running the ./run.sh command.

  5. Log in as admin user configured during the UAM Linux 7.5 installation.

UAM 7.5.1 launches successfully with UAM 7.5 pre-configured agents.

Upgrading UAM 7.5 to 7.5.1 on Microsoft Windows

Perform this procedure to upgrade UAM 7.5 to 7.5.1 on Microsoft Windows.

  1. Download the UAM 7.5.1 installer from NetIQ Downloads website.

  2. Extract the zip file to the computer where you want to install the UAM.

  3. Run the UAM 7.5.1 installer.

Upgrading UAM 7.4 to 7.5 on Linux

IMPORTANT:UAM on Linux does not support upgrading UAM 7.4 to 7.5 version.

Perform the following procedure to migrate from UAM 7.4 to 7.5 version:

  1. Close all UAM 7.4 applications.

  2. Uninstall UAM 7.4 on target host by running the ./installserver.sh remove command.

NOTE:Do not delete the UAM database folder. Retain it for migration to 7.5 version.

  3. Go to UAM 7.5 folder and install UAM Linux 7.5 by running ./installserver.sh install command.

  4. Import the UAM database folder <UAM Directory>/UAM/UAMDB from 7.4 version instead of setting up a new database.

NOTE:UAM does not prompt for creation of database if UAM database folder already exists in current directory.

  5. Start UAM 7.5 by running the ./run.sh command.

  6. Log in as admin user configured during the UAM Linux 7.4 installation.

UAM 7.5 launches successfully with UAM 7.4 pre-configured agents.

Upgrading UAM 7.4 to 7.5 on Microsoft Windows

Perform this procedure to upgrade UAM 7.4 to 7.5 on Microsoft Windows.

  1. Download the UAM 7.5 installer from NetIQ Downloads website.

  2. Extract the zip file to the computer where you want to install the UAM.

  3. Run the UAM 7.5 installer on a different computer.

NOTE:Do not run the UAM 7.5 installer on the same computer where UAM 7.4 is installed. If you run the installation on the same computer as UAM 7.4, the communication between UAM 7.5 and existing 7.4 agents will be lost.

  4. Import the UAM 7.4 database to UAM 7.5 using the Import Host option.

IMPORTANT:You can also export the host list from UAM 7.4 and import the host list to UAM 7.5. You need to retain the password of the UAM 7.4 version when you install UAM 7.5.

UAM 7.5 will launch successfully with UAM 7.4 pre-configured agents.
