A.0 Sample Identity Manager Cluster Deployment Solution on SLES

The appendix provides instructions on how to configure Identity Vault (eDirectory) and Identity Manager in an active-passive high availability (HA) mode, which allows Identity Manager to fail over to a redundant cluster node in case of hardware or software failure. The following figure represents an active-passive HA architecture:

NOTE:eDirectory does not support load balancing by using multiple cluster nodes.

For a production-level Linux HA solution with shared storage, implementing a fencing mechanism in the cluster is recommended. Although there are different methods of implementing fencing mechanisms in the cluster, in our example, we use a STONITH resource which uses the Split Brain Detector (SBD).

This following sections provide step-by-step instructions for configuring eDirectory and Identity Manager on high availability clusters on a supported SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) cluster environment with shared storage.
