NetIQ Group Policy Administrator 6.8.2 Release Notes

This service pack improves usability and resolves several previous issues.

Many of these improvements were made in direct response to suggestions from our customers. We thank you for your time and valuable input. What’s New?

The following outline the key features and functions provided by this version, as well as issues resolved in this release:

Addition to the Notification Summary Screen

We added a new column to the Notification Screen called Display Name that lists the display name of the GPO. (ENG338546)

You Can Now Hide the "All" GPO Category in the Repository Node by Default

We added an option called All GPOs to the Customize Option user interface. By default the ALL category is hidden. To display it, enable the All GPOs option. (ENG279556)

Installing This Version

This service pack requires NetIQ Group Policy Administrator 6.8 or later.

To install this version, run GPA68000_SP2.exe on each GPA Server and GPA Console computer.

IMPORTANT:GPA now requires the following prerequisite versions:

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) (or x64 for GPA Console)

  • .NET Framework 4.0

  • PowerShell 2.0

The prerequisite checker installs these updated versions if you select that option.

Addressed Issues

This service pack includes all of the following fixes:

  • Resolved an issue that caused the GPA console to take a long time to enumerate containers. (ENG340454)

  • Resolved an issue that caused the offline mirror to report an error if a GPO has a large number of objects in the security filter. (ENG338141)

  • Resolved an issue that prevented you from importing or exporting GPOs that have the Deny Delete Child Object permission from Active Directory. (ENG339621)

  • Resolved an issue that allowed you to select a Windows user other than the logged on user in the SQL connection dialog. (ENG339646)

  • Resolved an issue that prevented the images from displaying in the Enterprise Consistency Report when that report is saved to a location other than the default location. (ENG318209)

  • Resolved an issue that occurred with the scripting provider when generating an AD Differences report using Visual Basic Scripting. (ENG340884)

  • Resolved an issue that allowed an untrusted user to be granted the Modify GPA Security permission. (ENG338070)

  • Resolved an issue where non-Admin users could not view the accounts information of a managed Domain. (ENG338082)

  • Resolved an issue that prevented the user from using GPA to edit the Wireless settings. (ENG339301)

  • Resolved an issue that prevented the user from connecting to the target domain controller's IPC share in order to export a GPO. (ENG341157)

  • Resolved an issue in which the GPO's Security tab did not match the Delegation tab. (ENG338023)

  • Resolved a migration mapping issue when migrating a child domain's settings to its parent domain. (ENG341547)

  • Resolved an issue that caused slow GPO migrations and Offline Mirror imports. (ENG335000)

  • Resolved an issue that decreased performance after upgrading to GPA 6.8 SP1. (ENG341520)

Errors Might Occur When Upgrading a GPA Server

The GPA 6.8 SP2 installer may report one or both of the following errors when the GPR server’s COM service cannot be stopped or started:

  • Class doesn't support Automation

  • Unspecified error

These errors are rarely triggered but if they do appear you can use one of the workarounds below.

Workaround #1: Restart the GPA server workstation and rerun the installer without performing any operations from the GPA console until the installation completes.

Workaround #2: Shut down the GPR server’s COM service and then run the installation.
