NetIQ Performance Endpoints 5.1.0.5 Hotfix Release Notes

Date Published: October 2017

NetIQ Performance Endpoints are lightweight software agents that allow you to send synthetic network traffic, including VoIP traffic, between two nodes on your network and take performance measurements.

This release improves usability and resolves previous issues. Many of these improvements were made in direct response to suggestions from our customers. We thank you for your time and valuable input. We hope you continue to help us ensure that our products meet all your needs. This release provides the following enhancement:

  • Support for Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Windows Server 2016. With this release, you can install and run NetIQ Performance Endpoints on computers running the most recent versions of Windows through Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016. For more information, see the System Requirements.

This release of NetIQ Performance Endpoints resolves the following issue:

  • DSCP marking shows some call packets marked with a value of 0. This release resolves an issue in which some DSCP markings on call packets was 0 rather than the quality of service value set in the call configuration. With this release, a retry to set markings on the packets is made when the Windows API is unable to do so on the first attempt. (ENG338620)

This release of NetIQ Performance Endpoints replaces all Previous Releases.

3.0 Installing Performance Endpoints

Because the Performance Endpoints runs as a service, after you install it, a window is not displayed. The endpoint program waits for incoming test requests, then executes those tests when the requests are received.

To install Performance Endpoints:

  1. Navigate to the Current Performance Endpoints Product Upgrades page and select the version of the Performance Endpoints program you want to use.

  2. Select the installation directory for the Performance Endpoints program. NetIQ Corporation recommends you install it on the local hard disk of the computer you are using. If you install on a LAN drive, the additional network traffic may influence your performance results. The default directory is \Program Files (x86)\NetIQ\Endpoint.

  3. If you have a previous release of the endpoint installed on your computer, click Yes to remove the previous installation, or select No to exit the installation program with no changes to your existing installation.

  4. Clear the Install pre-built data files option.

  5. Select the Start the Performance Endpoint when installed option to start the endpoint program immediately after installation. If you leave this box cleared, the endpoint starts when you restart the computer.

For more information about installing this module, see the NetIQ Performance Endpoints Management Guide, included in the download package.

4.0 Known Issues

NetIQ Corporation strives to ensure our products provide quality solutions for your enterprise software needs. The following issues are currently being researched.

  • Use of certain antivirus programs on a computer can result in errors running VoIP call quality tests, particularly when running Vivinet Assessor with over 90 concurrent calls in the test. To resolve this issue, disable the antivirus software. (DOC342555)

  • Error message states that string variable is not large enough for string during installation if System Path is very long. If the System Path is longer than 975 characters, the following error message displays during installation: String variable is not large enough for string. After you acknowledge the error, the installation continues successfully. After you acknowledge the error, the installation continues successfully. (ENG316356)

  • Windows Server 2008 R2/2012/2012 R2/2016 require the Quality Windows Audio Video Experience (qWAVE) feature. For the endpoint to run properly on the server operating systems from Windows Server 2008 R2 and later, you need to install the Quality Windows Audio Video Experience (qWAVE) feature. The qWAVE feature is enabled by default on computers running operating systems Windows 7/8/8.1/10. (DOC309447)

To install qWAVE:

  1. Launch the Windows Server Manager.

NOTE:Alternately, you can install qWAVE with the following command:

    servermanagercmd -install qwave

  2. Select Features in the tree on the left, and then select Add Features in the right-hand pane

  3. From the feature list, select Quality Windows Audio Video Experience.

  4. Click Next, and then click Install.

  5. After the qWAVE installation completes, reboot the server. For more information, see "Installing qWAVE to Monitor QoS Settings" in the NetIQ Performance Endpoints User Guide.

This release resolved the following issue:

  • Type of Service (ToS) error displays when starting a Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 computer with endpoints. This release resolves an issue in which an error might occur on an endpoint computer running Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 if you started up the computer and the endpoint service started running before the Quality Windows Audio Video Experience (qWAVE) service started. The error message states that CHR0125: Endpoint 1 does not support the following function(s) required to run this test: TOS bit settings for UDP or RTP. With this release, an update to the code for the endpoint prevents the error from occurring by ensuring the qWAVE service is running properly. (ENG313608)

  • Running the endpoints resulted in excessive memory consumption. This release resolves an issue in which the endpoint application consumed a large amount of memory, up to 100 MB per day, on the Listener endpoint (E2) when the source and destination port numbers were set to user-specified values. (ENG305797)
