AppManager ResponseTime for Exchange and Exchange Online 7.3.0.1 Release Notes

Date Published: August 2019

AppManager ResponseTime for Exchange and Exchange Online provides a set of transactions that can be run from client machines to Exchange servers and Exchange Online. These transactions monitor the availability and response time of typical Exchange operations, such as checking an Exchange Address Book entry; it reports the amount of time this operation took, and any errors that occurred. The event details report exactly which part of the transaction experienced the error. You can deploy these automated transactions at any sites served by a Microsoft Exchange server and on any client machines that can connect to Exchange Online.

This release improves usability and resolves previous issues. Many of these improvements were made in direct response to suggestions from our customers. We thank you for your time and valuable input. 3.0 Contents of the Download Package

AppManager ResponseTime for Exchange and Exchange Online includes a managed object, QCMA.dll, and Knowledge Scripts to discover and monitor Exchange resources. The download package includes this release notes, a management guide, Help for Knowledge Scripts, and several files that are used during installation:

  • AM70-Exchange-RT-7.3.110.0.msi, the module installer.

  • AM70-Exchange-RT-7.3.110.0.ini, a configuration file used with the AppManager setup program.

  • AM70-Exchange-RT-7.3.110.0.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center. This is the file you check into the Control Center Web Depot.

  • AM70-Exchange-RT-7.3.110.0-RepositoryFiles.exe, a compressed file that contains the QDB and console files. You do not need to run this file during installation.

  • ckExchange-RT.exe, the pre-installation check used with the AppManager setup program.

When you download the module, these files are copied by default to the local folder on the download computer. Consider copying these files to the \windows_installation\setup\Setup Files folder on the same distribution computer on which you saved your main AppManager software and documentation. By doing so, you maintain all AppManager software in one location that is easily accessible when you want to add more repositories, management servers, or agents.

4.0 Installing This Module

Run the module installer to install the module components in the following locations:

  • On the computers you want to monitor (agents) to install the agent components

  • On all console computers to install the Help and console extensions

Run the module installer only once on each of these computers.

You must also install the Knowledge Scripts. You can install these components into local or remote QDBs.

When installing to each QDB, select the option to install Knowledge Scripts, and then specify the SQL Server name of the server hosting the QDB, as well as the case-sensitive QDB name.

IMPORTANT:Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 is required on the computer where you run the installation program for the QDB portion of the module. For computers running more recent versions of Windows operating systems that use a newer version of .NET, install .NET 3.5 with the Add Roles and Features wizard in Windows Server Manager, as described in this Microsoft article.

IMPORTANT:This release provides SQL stored procedures. To ensure module functionality, run the module installer for each QDB attached to Control Center.

Install Knowledge Scripts only once per QDB. The module installer now installs Knowledge Scripts for each module directly into the QDB instead of to the \AppManager\qdb\kp folder as in previous releases.

For more information about installing this module, see the AppManager ResponseTime for Exchange and Exchange Online Management Guide, included in the download package.

5.0 Known Issues

NetIQ Corporation strives to ensure our products provide quality solutions for your enterprise software needs. The following issues are currently being researched. If you need further assistance with any issue, please contact Technical Support.

  • AppManager ResponseTime for Exchange Knowledge Scripts fail if you use Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2010: Outlook 2003 fails with Exchange 2010 because Exchange 2010 requires encrypted communication, and Outlook 2003 has encryption disabled by default. As a workaround for this issue, use the new parameter added to each Exchange-RT Knowledge Script: Name of the profile to use. For more information, see the online Help for the Knowledge Scripts. (ENG303385)

  • Exchange-RT Knowledge Scripts fail with a MAPI error event message: An issue with MAPI impersonation causes the error event message of MAPI Error 0x803A1003: Unable to open Exchange when running Exchange-RT scripts. As a workaround for this issue, set the Mailbox name parameter in the affected Knowledge Scripts to a user name that has had at least one user session on the agent computer, or you can use a profile previously created in Outlook by typing that profile name into the Name of the profile to use parameter. (ENG299395)

  • Exchange-RT Knowledge Scripts fail to use RPC over HTTP Security to connect to Exchange on 64-bit Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP computers: As a workaround for this issue, ensure that the Outlook user logs into the Outlook Web Access console to enable RPC over HTTP Security for the profile created by Exchange-RT. (ENG303667)

  • Exchange-RT Knowledge Scripts do not work with Kerberos password authentication: This release addresses an issue in which the Exchange-RT scripts worked only with profiles that used NLTM authentication, but not Kerberos authentication. With this release, each script includes a new parameter, Profile authentication type. This parameter lets you choose between NLTM authentication or Kerberos authentication, or you can let Exchange choose between the two authentication types. (ENG310358)

  • New parameter added to all Knowledge Scripts to handle profile creation: All five non-report ResponseTime for Exchange scripts include a new parameter: Create an Exchange profile during each iteration? With this release, the affected Knowledge Scripts can properly have actions applied to them. (ENG281858)

These updates affect the following Knowledge Scripts:

    • CheckAddressBookEntry

    • OpenFolder

    • OpenFolderAndRead

    • SendAndReceiveMessage

    • SendAndTrackMessage

6.5 Release 7.0, March 2007

This release provided the following enhancements:

  • Event proxying capability: You can now select the resource object where events appear in the console TreeView. This feature supports the Service Map Viewer component of Control Center. You can select whether events generated by the ResponseTime for Exchange managed object appear on the agent, on the server, or both.

  • Back-level Knowledge Script support discontinued: To support architectural and build enhancements, including a smaller installation profile, all Knowledge Scripts from versions earlier than version 6.4 of AppManager ResponseTime for Exchange have been deprecated. These Knowledge Scripts will fail if you try to run them.
