3.0 Contents of the Download Package

IBM Systems Director includes a managed object, qnfda4.dll, and Knowledge Scripts to discover and monitor IBM Systems Director resources. The download package includes these Release Notes, a Management Guide, Help for Knowledge Scripts, and several files that are used during installation:

  • AM70-NetfinityDir-7.2.65.0.msi, the module installer.

  • AM70-NetfinityDir-7.2.65.0.ini, a configuration file used with the AppManager setup program.

  • AM70-NetfinityDir-7.2.65.0.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center. This is the file you check into the Control Center Web Depot.

  • AM70-NetfinityDir-7.2.65.0-RepositoryFiles.exe, a compressed file that contains the QDB and console files. You do not need to run this file during installation.

  • ckNetfinityDir.exe, the pre-installation check used with the AppManager setup program.

  • DefaultRule_NetfinityDir.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center.

When you download the module, these files are copied by default to the local folder on the download computer. Consider copying these files to the \windows_installation\setup\Setup Files folder on the same distribution computer on which you saved your main AppManager software and documentation. By doing so, you maintain all AppManager software in one location that is easily accessible when you want to add more repositories, management servers, or agents.

4.0 Installing This Module

Run the module installer to install the module components in the following locations:

  • On the IBM Systems Director computers you want to monitor (agents) to install the agent components

  • On all console computers to install the Help and console extensions

Run the module installer only once on each of these computers.

You must also install the Knowledge Scripts. You can install these components into local or remote QDBs. When installing to the primary QDB, select the option to install Knowledge Scripts, and then specify the SQL Server name of the server hosting the QDB, as well as the case-sensitive QDB name.

IMPORTANT:If you use Control Center 7.x, run the module installer for each QDB attached to Control Center. If you use Control Center 8.x or later, run the module installer only for the primary QDB, and Control Center will automatically replicate this module to secondary QDBs.

Install Knowledge Scripts only once per QDB. The module installer now installs Knowledge Scripts for each module directly into the QDB instead of to the \AppManager\qdb\kp folder as in previous releases.

IMPORTANT:To migrate to IBM Systems Director version 6.3.5:

  1. Install IBM Systems Director Common Agent version 6.3.5.

  2. Install ServeRAID Manager version 9.30 for the ServeRAID controller.

  3. Run the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script to refresh the tree view in the Operator Console.

For more information about installing this module, see the AppManager for IBM Systems Director Management Guide, included in the download package.

5.0 Known Issues

NetIQ Corporation strives to ensure our products provide quality solutions for your enterprise software needs. The following issues are currently being researched. If you need further assistance with any issue, please contact Technical Support.

  • Adaptec RAID controller does not work on IBM Systems Director 6.3.5 on a Windows Server 2012 R2 computer. IBM Systems Director 6.3.5 does not provide support for ServeRAID controller monitoring. To monitor the ServeRAID controller, you need to install IBM ServeRAID Manager on IBM Systems Director 6.3.5 on a Windows Server 2012 R2 computer. When you use IBM ServeRAID Manager on Windows Server 2012 R2, the SNMP service stops unexpectedly. This is because Windows Server 2012 R2 does not support IBM ServeRAID Manager. (DOC340093)

  • Data collection fails after upgrading from IBM Systems Director 6.2.1 to IBM Systems Director 6.3.5. When you upgrade IBM Systems Director version 6.2.1 to 6.3.5 and then run the jobs, data collection fails because the tree view objects are modified in IBM Systems Director version 6.3.5. (DOC340204)

    To workaround this issue:

    1. Upgrade IBM Systems Director version 6.2.1 to 6.3.5.

    2. Install ServeRAID Manager version 9.30 for the ServeRAID controller.

    3. Upgrade IBM Netfinity module version 7.1 to 7.2.

    4. Run the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script to refresh the tree view in the Operator Console.

    5. Propagate the jobs from IBM Netfinity module version 7.1 to 7.2.

  • IBM Systems Director versions 6.3.0, 6.2.1, 6.2.0, 6.1.2, and 6.1.1 do not provide results for WMI queries. These versions of IBM Systems Director do not provide results for WMI (Windows Management Interface) queries when two power supplies are connected but one is turned off. Therefore, when monitoring systems with one of these versions of IBM Systems Director installed, the HealthCheckHW Knowledge Script sometimes does not raise an event if one of the power supplies fails. (ENG282223)

  • IBM Systems Director versions 6.2.0 and 6.1.1 do not provide correct data for System Model and BIOS Version. Therefore, the Details pane for that version does not show the correct information for those attributes. This issue was corrected in IBM Systems Director version 6.1.2, for which the details are correct. In version 6.3.0 and 6.2.1, however, the System Model does not display in the Details pane, but the BIOS version displays properly. (ENG282709)

  • With IBM Systems Director version 6.1.1, the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script discovers additional objects for Physical Memory. For systems with IBM Systems Director version 6.1.1 compared with systems with IBM Director version 5.x.x, the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script discovers additional objects for Physical Memory. For these physical objects, the details pane shows the parameter values for Status as "Unknown" and for Size as "0". Therefore, the NetfinityDir_MemoryErrors Knowledge Script cannot monitor these objects. (ENG282709)

  • IBM Systems Director does not provide correct details for Fan, Voltage, and Temperature objects. For systems with that version, the Details pane shows the parameter values for those objects for Lower Threshold and Upper Threshold as "0". Therefore:

    • The NetfinityDir_FanSpeed and NetfinityDir_Temperature cannot monitor Fan and Temperature sensors with the Threshold option parameter set to "standard" on the Values tab. However, these scripts can monitor Fan and Temperature sensors with the Threshold option parameter set to "custom".

    • The NetfinityDir_Voltage Knowledge Scripts cannot monitor Voltage sensors. (ENG282709)

  • IBM Systems Director versions 6.3.0, 6.2.1, 6.2.0, and 6.1.2 do not provide correct data for Temperature objects. Therefore, for systems with that version of IBM Systems Director compared with systems with IBM Director version 5.x.x., the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script discovers additional objects for Temperature. For these Temperature objects the details pane shows the parameter values empty for Lower Threshold and Upper Threshold. Therefore, the NetfinityDir_Temperature Knowledge Script cannot monitor these objects. (ENG282709)

6.4 Hotfix 71174, October 2008

Hotfix 71174 resolved the following issues:

  • Discovery fails for disk drives larger than 100 GB. Before you install this release, the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script job fails when it finds disk drives larger than 100 GB. After you install this release, the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script job successfully discovers disk drives of all sizes. (ENG243635)

  • Discovery fails for large number of resources. Before you install this release, the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script job fails when it attempts to discover a large number of resources. After you install this release, the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script job successfully discovers a large number of IBM Director resources. (ENG247515)

  • Discovery fails to add objects to Operator Console TreeView pane. Before you install this release, the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script job completes without errors but fails to add the IBM Director object to the TreeView pane. After you install this release, the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script job adds the IBM Director object to the TreeView pane when the job completes successfully. (ENG249638)

  • Discovery fails when part of Knowledge Script Group. Before you install this release, the Discovery_NetfinityDir Knowledge Script job randomly stops and starts the NetIQ Client Resource Monitor service (netiqmc) when the job runs as part of a Knowledge Script Group. After you install this release, changes to memory management prevent the random stopping and starting of the netiqmc service and allow the Discovery_NetFinityDir Knowledge Script job to run to completion.
