What's New?

This release of AppManager ResponseTime for Oracle provides the following enhancements:

  • Support for Oracle Database 11g for Microsoft Windows. This release supports Oracle Database versions 8i through 11g R2 (11.2.0.x) for Microsoft Windows. For more information, see the System Requirements.
  • Support for installing the module on additional Microsoft Windows operating systems. This release now supports all Windows operating system through Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit).

To get the updates provided in this release, you must install the module to the AppManager repository (QDB) and on the agent computer, and then propagate changes to any running jobs for the Knowledge Scripts that were updated in this release. AppManager 7.x does not automatically update renamed or copied Knowledge Scripts. For more information, see the "Upgrading Knowledge Script Jobs" section in the management guide.

System Requirements

For the most recently updated list of supported application versions, see the AppManager Supported Products page. Unless noted otherwise, this module supports all updates, hotfixes, and service packs for the releases listed below.

AppManager ResponseTime for Oracle has the following system requirements:

  • At minimum, AppManager version 7.0 installed on the AppManager repository (QDB) computer, on the Oracle computers you want to monitor (agents), and on all console computers.

  • Note Support for Windows Server 2008 on AppManager 7.x requires AppManager Windows Agent hotfix 71704 or later. For more information, see the AppManager Suite Hotfixes page.
  • One of the following Microsoft operating systems installed on the agent computers:
    • Windows Server 2012
    • Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit)
    • Windows Server 2008 R2
    • Windows Server 2008 (32-bit and 64-bit)
    • Windows Server 2003 R2 (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Oracle Database versions 8i through 11g R2 (11.2.0.x) for Microsoft Windows, appropriate for your operating system.
    • For Oracle 11g R2, apply the Oracle 11.2.0.4.0 patch set.
    • For Oracle 10g R2, apply the Oracle 10.2.0.5.0 patch set.
  • On 32-bit Windows computers where the module is being installed, the Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) Driver for Oracle must be installed and is usually installed with the operating system. A newer version of the driver might be available in the latest Microsoft Data Access Components package from the Microsoft Download Center.
  • On 64-bit Windows computers where the module is being installed, the 32-bit Oracle Provider for Object Linking and Embedding Database (OLE DB) should be installed for your version of Oracle Database. You can install this from the Oracle Client or Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) software packages.
  • Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.5 or later. MDAC includes ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle, and Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle. Optional: Oracle Provider for OLE DB 8.0 or later. This provider is distributed by Oracle.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 or later.

Contents of the Download Package

AppManager ResponseTime for Oracle includes Knowledge Scripts to discover and monitor Oracle resources. The download package includes this Readme, a management guide, Help for Knowledge Scripts, and several files that are used during installation:

  • AM70-Oracle-RT-7.1.265.0.msi, the module installer.
  • AM70-Oracle-RT-7.1.265.0.ini, a configuration file used with the AppManager setup program.
  • AM70-Oracle-RT-7.1.265.0.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center. This is the file you check into the Control Center Web Depot.
  • AM70-Oracle-RT-7.1.265.0-RepositoryFiles.exe, a compressed file that contains the QDB and console files. You do not need to run this file during installation.
  • ckOracle-RT.exe, the pre-installation check used with the AppManager setup program.
  • DefaultRule_Oracle-RT.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center.

When you download the module, these files are copied by default to the local folder on the download computer. Consider copying these files to the \windows_installation\setup\Setup Files folder on the same distribution computer on which you saved your main AppManager software and documentation. By doing so, you maintain all AppManager software in one location that is easily accessible when you want to add more repositories, management servers, or agents.

Installing This Module

Run the module installer to install the module components in the following locations:

  • On the computers you want to monitor (agents) to install the agent components
  • On all console computers to install the Help and console extensions

Run the module installer only once on each of these computers.

You must also install the Knowledge Scripts. You can install these module components to either local or remote databases.

When installing to each QDB, select the option to install Knowledge Scripts, and then specify the SQL Server name of the server hosting the QDB, as well as the case-sensitive QDB name. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 is required on the computer where you run the installation program for the QDB portion of the module. For computers running more recent versions of Windows operating systems that use a newer version of .NET, install .NET 3.5 with the Add Roles and Features wizard in Windows Server Manager, as described in this Microsoft article.

Important This release provides SQL stored procedures. To ensure module functionality, run the module installer for each QDB attached to Control Center.

You need to install Knowledge Scripts only once per database. The module installer now installs Knowledge Scripts for each module directly into the QDB instead of to the \AppManager\qdb\kp folder as in previous releases.

For more information about installing this module, see the AppManager ResponseTime for Oracle Management Guide, included in the download package.

Known Issues

NetIQ Corporation strives to ensure our products provide quality solutions for your enterprise software needs. The following issues are currently being researched. If you need further assistance with any issue, please contact Technical Support.

  • Discovery_Oracle-RT Knowledge Script sometimes raises an unclear error message when discovery fails. Sometimes when you re-run the Disovery_Oracle-RT script, the job fails with an event message stating that ResponseTime for Oracle is not installed. The event message is inaccurate, and you can ignore it. (ENG332153)
  • Oracle-RT_ODBCQuery Knowledge Script does not list the correct Records Affected value in event messages. The event message for an Oracle-RT_ODBCQuery job lists the value for Records Affected as zero even if the records were modified. (ENG332193)

Previous Releases

This release of AppManager ResponseTime for Oracle includes enhancements added in previous releases.

Version 7.0.154.0, March 2007

This release of AppManager ResponseTime for Oracle provides the following enhancements:

  • Event proxying capability. You can now select the resource object where events appear in the console TreeView. This feature supports the Service Map Viewer component of Control Center. You can select whether events generated by the ResponseTime for Oracle managed object appear on the agent, on the server, or both.
  • Backlevel Knowledge Script support discontinued. To support architectural and build enhancements, including a smaller installation profile, all Knowledge Scripts from versions earlier than version 6.4 of AppManager ResponseTime for Oracle have been deprecated. These Knowledge Scripts will fail if you try to run them.
