11.2 Understanding the Reporting Portlet

The Reporting portlet displays the Analysis Center report that is created in the Reporting Center. The report is displayed in the form of chart.

To view the latest data in the report, refresh the Reporting portlet periodically.

NOTE:If a report is modified in the Reporting Center Console, you must refresh the Operations Center Dashboard to view the updated report.

Figure 11-2 Reporting portlet

The Reporting portlet allows only one report to be configured at a time. You can add multiple Reporting portlets in a page or different pages to display multiple reports.

IMPORTANT:Only administrators can add and configure the Reporting portlets. Users can view and filter the reports in the Reporting portlets.

The following sections describe how to add, configure, and use the Reporting portlet:

11.2.1 Adding a Reporting Portlet

To add a Reporting portlet:

  1. In the Operations Center dashboard, click Add.

  2. Click Applications > Reporting Center.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • Click the portlet and drag to a desired position on the page.

    • Click Add next to the portlet.

11.2.2 Configuring the Reporting Portlet

After adding a Reporting Portlet, the portlet should be configured to display a report. To configure a report in the Reporting portlet:

  1. Click Options > Configuration.

  2. In the Setup tab, select a report.

  3. Select the required Interactivity options:

    • Allow Server Selection: Displays a list of selected servers from the Group Context of the Reporting Center.

    • Allow Metric Selection: Displays a list of selected metric data from the Metric Context of the Reporting Center.

    • Allow Time Selection: The time duration for which the report will be displayed.

NOTE:By default, the Interactivity options are enabled based on the report that you have selected. But you can deselect the Interactivity options according to your requirements.

  4. Specify the Number of X Axis Labels [0 for All] to be displayed in the report. By default, the number is 6.

NOTE:When you increase the number of labels, the exact number of labels might not appear on the X-axis of the graph because the labels will be closely spaced.

  5. Click Save, and close the configuration pop up window.

11.2.3 Using the Reporting Portlet

The Reporting portlet consists of the Report Context, the Date Range, and the Chart panel.

Report Context

The Report Context contains the Server Context and the Metric Context tabs, which are displayed based on the Interactivity options selected while configuring a report in the Reporting portlet. That is, the Server Context tab is based on the Allow Server Selection option and the Metric Context tab is based on the Allow Metric Selection option. If you have deselected these options during configuring a report, the tabs do not appear in the Report Context for the report.

Figure 11-4 Server Context with server objects

The Server Context tab displays the list of server objects, which you have selected from the Group Context while creating a report in the Reporting Center.

Figure 11-5 Metric Context with metric objects

The Metric Context tab displays the list of metric objects, which you have selected from the Metric Context while creating a report in the Reporting Center.

Report Context filter: Used to filter the Server Context data and the Metric Context data. You can select or deselect the objects in the Server Context and the Metric Context tabs and then click Apply to update the report.

If you refresh the Dashboard page or the Reporting portlet, the filter set by you is removed and the objects are restored to default selection.

IMPORTANT:The filter on the Server Context or the Metric Context is effective only when the X-axis of the chart represents the Server Context data or the Metric Context data for a report.

NOTE:This filter is not applicable for Aggregate template reports.

Date Range

The Date Range tab allows you to select a time period for which you want to view the report. This tab is based on Allow Time Selection option.

Figure 11-6 Date Range

When you specify a date range:

  • Filter applied on the Server Context or the Metric Context is ignored and the chart displays the data based on the selected time period.

  • The objects in the Server Context and the Metric Context tabs remain unaffected. For example, when you select a date range, the chart displays the data for all the connected servers during the time period but the server objects in the Server Context tab do not change as per the selected time period.

Chart Panel

The chart panel displays a report in the form of charts. The data in the chart is organized in the form of categories (X-axis data) and series (Y-axis data). You can click the series to hide or display the data in the chart.

Figure 11-7 Series and categories in chart panel

In the illustration:

  • SQL Server Available Log Space, SQL Server Blocked Processes and SQL Server Cache Hit Ratio are known as categories

  • Today and Yesterday are known as series

For example, if you want to view today’s report only, click the Yesterday series to hide the yesterday’s data.

NOTE:Few charts require at least two data points to plot the graph: area chart, line chart, and so forth. A maximum of 1000 data points can be added on a chart based on the number of labels.

You can zoom a chart to view a particular area. Click and drag the mouse over the desired area to zoom. Click Reset zoom to return to the default scale.

Printing a chart

The Reporting portlet allows you to print a chart:

  1. Click Print.

  2. Select your configured printer.

  3. Click OK.

Exporting a chart

A chart can be exported to various forms, for example: .png, .jpeg, .pdf, .svg:

  1. Click Export.

  2. Select the desired format.
