Environment

PlateSpin Forge
PlateSpin Migrate
PlateSpin Protect

Situation

After configuring a workload or a migration job to stop Anti-Virus services on the source, the replication/migration enters a Recoverable Error state with one of the following messages:

File transfer halted. Make sure the source and the target are able to communicate
The file transfer is stalled - unable to connect to port 3725 on IP address %source ip address%

Resolution

Abort the current replication/migration.  Prior to starting again, alter the configuration so Anti-Virus services are left running.

If Anti-Virus services need to be stopped for a replication/migration, it is recommended that they be stopped manually.

Cause

When the PlateSpin server attempts to stop some Anti-Virus services the services will restart themselves immediately.  This is a security measure to ensure viruses/intruders can't simply stop the service and have unrestricted access to a system.  When all services have been issued a stop command, however, the PlateSpin server checks to make sure they are stopped.  If the services restart themselves automatically, this causes an infinite loop where PlateSpin is attempting to stop services that will never remain stopped.
