13.1 Add or Edit List of Excluded Ranges

When you use a default gateway router as a basis for network discovery scanning, you can select exactly which IP network address ranges known to the gateway router will be queried. To do this, you must select IP address ranges to exclude from scanning. Otherwise, Vivinet Assessor sends SNMP queries to every IP address in the ranges known to the router.

NOTE:Unless you exclude some subnets, using a default gateway router for discovery scanning can be unnecessarily time-consuming.

From the Set Up view for the Network Inventory, click Add to add a range of IP network addresses to the list of ranges to exclude from discovery. This button is visible only when the option to Use a default gateway is selected.

The Add to List of Excluded Ranges dialog box lets you enter the range of addresses in the fields labeled From and To. To exclude a single IP address from discovery, enter the address in the From field and click OK, leaving the To field blank. The address or range of addresses appears in the list of excluded ranges.

Once you add a range of addresses to the List of Excluded Ranges, the checkbox labeled Exclude from Discovery? should be checked. This indicates that the range will not be scanned during the current discovery session. Click Edit and remove the checkmark if you later decide to include this range in network discovery scanning.
