Rule-based management groups
Instead of making you manually assign newly-discovered components to groups, AppManager® can dynamically update membership according to specific rules.
Management groups are useful for indicating systems and applications that serve similar roles. By grouping them, monitoring policies, custom properties, reporting and other features can be applied to the whole group. This reduces the workload on administrators compared to doing this manually.
Yet, in a highly-dynamic environment, such as one that is significantly virtualized, maintaining management groups becomes an administrative burden itself.
A rule-based management group automates the selection of conforming systems and applications and logically groups them using custom properties. Rule-based management groups work well when you have less information about the system that is being managed and you need to rely on the rules to select the correct system.
