Resolution

goal
How do I browse to child domains in trusted forest domains using the Browse for Domain window?

symptom
Unable to browse to child domains in trusted forest domains using the Browse for Domain window.

symptom
Unable to type the name of a trusted child domain in the Search GPO in this domain field of the Search window.

cause

This is a known issue in GPA. When you use the search feature in the GPA GP Analysis node to search for a GPO in a different forest, if you are searching for a GPO in a child domain and the child domain is in a forest that trusts the forest in which you installed the GPA console, the following problems occur:

  • GPA does not display child domains in the trusting forest in the Browse for Domain window
  • GPA does not allow you to type the name of the child domain in the Search GPO in this domain field of the Search window

fix

NetIQ Group Policy Administrator version 5.0 Hotfix 52999 addresses these issues.

Hotfix 52999 addresses issues that occur when you use the search feature in the NetIQ Group Policy Administrator (GPA) GP Analysis node to search for a Group Policy Object (GPO) in a different forest. If you are searching for a GPO in a child domain and the child domain is in a forest that trusts the forest in which you installed the GPA console, the following problems occur:

  • GPA does not display child domains in the trusting forest in the Browse for Domain window
  • GPA does not allow you to type the name of the child domain in the Search GPO in this domain field of the Search window

Hotfix 52999 addresses these issues and allows you to type the name of the child domain in the Search GPO in this domain field.

Note:  After installing this hotfix, when you type the name of the child domain in the Search GPO in this domain field of the Search window, you must use a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) or a Distinguished Name (DN).

To install this hotfix, perform the following steps:

  1. Close all GPA user interfaces.
  2. Run the GPA50000_Hotfix52999.exe file on each computer where you installed the GPA Console.

This hotfix modifies the faGPAnalysis.dll. By default, GPA installs this file in the Program Files\NetIQ\Group Policy Administrator\Bin folder.
