symptom
Error: 'Error saving the changes to the User. The name reference is invalid' when trying to update the properties of an Organizational Unit (OU), Contact, or User Account via the Directory and Resource Administrator 32 bit GUI.

cause
The 32 Bit GUI has an issue with handling special characters such as the '#' sign in the name of the object.

fix

This issue is addressed in NetIQ Directory and Resource Administrator and Exchange Administrator version 7.0 SP1 Hotfix 41976.

Directory and Resource Administrator and Exchange Administrator version 7.0 SP1 Hotfix 41976 correct an issue handling special characters in object names, including organizational units, contacts, and user accounts.

Note: This Hotfix requires DRA version 7.0 SP1.

To download and install this hotfix:

1. Run the DRA70001_Hotfix41976.msi file on on each computer where you installed the DRA user interfaces.

This hotfix modifies the NetIQ.DRA.Utility.dll on DRA client computers. By default, this file is located in the Program Files\NetIQ\DRA folder.
