fix

Group Policy Guardian (GPG) 2.0 SP1 includes Hotfix 47683, Hotfix 48486, and Hotfix 49314. This service pack also includes several improvements and addresses issues in the following areas:

  • Provides improved support for Windows Server 2003
  • Improves error messages and error handling in the event log
  • Resolves out-of-range datetime value errors
  • Resolves reporting errors related to No Language or a Neutral Culture Language Selection in Internet Explorer
  • Resolves inability to create baseline
  • Resolves inability to delete monitored GPOs
  • Resolves failure to create GPO deletion event

Provides Improved Support for Windows Server 2003

This release adds support for new Windows Server 2003 SP1 ADM settings related to Terminal Services in Group Policy Guardian reports. The release also resolves an issue where certain events in Windows Server 2003 such as creating computers caused Group Policy Guardian reports to fail when these events were monitored in the event log. GPG reporting could also fail if there were a large number of events in the event log. These items no longer cause GPG reports to fail.

Improvement to the handling of large numbers of events in the event log also requires Microsoft Hotfix 902346. For more information about this hotfix, see the NetIQ Knowledge Base article NETIQKB49892: "Slow Group Policy Guardian (GPG) performance.", which is available from https://www.netiq.com/kb/esupport/consumer/esupport.asp?id=NETIQKB49892.

Improves Error Messages and Error Handling in the Event Log
This release removes unnecessary 7777 and 5551 errors and warnings that Group Policy Guardian wrote to the event log when deleting GPOs or parsing XML files. This release also provides more specific error messages related to Group Policy Guardian being unable to access the domain controller or attempting to generate reports with a service account that does not have sufficient permissions to read the system registry.

Resolves Out-of-Range datetime Value Errors
This release corrects an issue where the Policy Auditing Report produced the following error when it encountered certain date formats (for example, dd/mm/yyyy):

The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value. The statement has been terminated.

Group Policy Guardian now handles different date formats without error.

Resolves Reporting Errors Related to No Language or a Neutral Culture Language Selection in Internet Explorer
This release corrects errors that occurred when running Group Policy Guardian reports when Internet Explorer is set with either no language or a neutral culture language option. No language selection resulted in the following error:

Server Error in '/GroupPolicyGuardian' Application.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

A neutral culture language selection resulted in an error similar to the following:

Server Error in '/GroupPolicyGuardian' Application.
Culture "en" is a neutral culture. It can not be used in formatting and parsing and therefore cannot be set as the thread's current culture.

Group Policy Guardian now handles these language selections by attempting to identify the correct culture-specific language setting or by defaulting to U.S. English.

Resolves Inability to Create Baseline
This release resolves an issue where Group Policy Guardian was unable to generate a GPO Baseline. GPG was unable to resolve the path to SYSVOL from the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the domain. GPG now correctly resolves the path to SYSVOL.

Resolves Inability to Delete Monitored GPOs
This release r.
esolves an issue where it was not possible to delete GPOs that were added to Specific GPO Alert Rules for monitoring. You can now delete these GPOs.

Resolves Failure to Create GPO Deletion Event
This release resolves an issue where Group Policy Guardian failed to generate an event for a GPO deletion on Windows 2000 domain controllers. GPG now generates these GPO deletion events.
