Resolution

goal
What does DMA do when it translates security on a user profile?

fact
Domain Migration Administrator 7.1

fix

When DMA translates security in 'Add' mode on a user profile, it does the following steps:

  1. Adds the target user account SID to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList in the registry on the machine where you are translating security.
  2. The value for HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\...SID...\ProfileImagePath is set to the path to the source account profile folder on that same workstation.
  3. Adds the target account to the NTFS ACL on the profile folder.
