23.1 Prerequisite for Sentinel in FIPS Mode

The following prerequisite is applicable if you have downgraded the Java version by using JRE 7 update 45 to resolve connection problems between clients and Sentinel running in FIPS mode as mentioned in Sentinel 7.2.2 Known Issues.

If there are symbolic links in any of the Sentinel installation directories, the Sentinel installer does not continue with the upgrade. When you download and install JRE 7 update 45 to downgrade the Java version, the JRE folder contains a subfolder named man, which has symbolic links. Therefore, you should delete the man folder to upgrade successfully to Sentinel 7.3 and later. However, if you have downloaded and installed JDK 7 update 45 instead of JRE 7 update 45, the man folder will not contain symbolic links and the man folder need not be deleted.

To delete the man folder:

  1. Log in to the Sentinel server as novell user.

  2. Specify the following command to change the directory:

    cd /opt/novell/sentinel/jre/

  3. Delete the man folder:

    rm -rf man
