2.4 Modifying a Drawing

When a Layout view is first displayed, it is read only. Making any changes to a Layout drawing creates a custom drawing. To modify a drawing requires switching to Edit mode, which locks the element and prevent other users from editing the same Layout view.

Only one user at a time can work on a Layout drawing.

To edit a Layout view drawing:

  1. In the Explorer pane, select the element whose Layout view drawing should be edited.

  2. Click the Layout tab to update the view.

By default, the Layout view is read-only.

  3. Click Switch to Edit Mode in the Layout view status bar.

In the Explorer pane, the word (Locked) displays next to the selected element to show the Layout view is locked for this element. The view updates to display the drawing tools toolbar.

You can also switch to Edit mode by pressing Ctrl+D or by clicking Edit > Edit Drawing.

  4. Make changes to the drawing.

  5. Save the drawing changes by pressing Ctrl+S or by right-clicking the background and selecting Save Drawing.

If you do not save the drawing, but attempt to exit the Layout view by clicking a different element in the Explorer pane, a dialog box prompts you to save the drawing. Do one of the following:

    • Click Yes to save the drawing.

    • Click No to abandon changes made since the last save.

  6. To end Edit mode and switch to View mode without saving changes:

    1. Click Switch to View Mode.

    2. When prompted to save changes, click No.
