12.1 In-place Upgrade

An in-place upgrade is installing the new version of Identity Manager on the existing server. To install Identity Manager, you must upgrade the current versions of the OS and eDirectory to the supported versions for Identity Manager 3.6.1. See Section 6.0, System Requirements for a list of the supported platforms.

There are certain scenarios that occur when an in-place upgrade is not feasible, or multiple in-place upgrades must be performed. Because Identity Manager 3.5.x and above are the only supported migration paths, these are the only versions that are contained in the following scenarios:

The only supported situation for an in-place upgrade is to have Identity Manager 3.5.x on a supported operating system. But there are some scenarios where an in-place upgrade is not feasible. The following are some examples where an in-place upgrade is not feasible:
