Policies manage the data that is synchronizing between the Identity Vault and the remote data store. The policies are stored in the policy sets (see Understanding Policy Components
in NetIQ Identity Manager Understanding Policies Guide.) Designer provides a wide set of tools for defining and debugging policies to control how information flows from one system to another, and under what conditions.
