59.6 Migrating from Websphere or JBoss to Tomcat Web Application Server

Before upgrading to Identity Manager 4.6 or later version, you must migrate existing JBoss or Websphere to Tomcat Application Server.

This section helps you migrate the Identity Applications from your existing web application servers such as Websphere or JBoss to Tomcat application server. This process requires you to install Identity Applications on Tomcat and configure the settings using configuration update utility.

To migrate from Websphere or JBoss to Tomcat, perform the following steps:

  1. Stop the Websphere or JBoss server.

  2. (Conditional) If Tomcat is not installed then install Tomcat and JRE using convenience installer.

    • Linux: products/RBPM/postgre_tomcat_install/TomcatPostgreSQL.bin

    • Windows: products\RBPM\postgre_tomcat_install\TomcatPostgreSQL.exe

NOTE:Use Tomcat application server that is bundled along with IDM 4.5 .iso.

  3. (Conditional) If you use existing JRE file, installer prompts you to overwrite certain files. Click Yes to all.

  4. Install the Identity Applications using convenience installer located at:

    products/RBPM/user_app_install/IdmUserApp.bin

    1. Select Tomcat as web application server.

    2. Select the Existing Database option and provide the host credentials. The default user ID is idmadmin.

    3. Specify the installation path of Tomcat and JRE.

    4. (Conditional) On cluster environment, Specify the same Engine ID that is mentioned during JBoss/Websphere installation.

NOTE:If you have single instance running on your application server, leave the Engine ID field blank unless you have specified during JBoss or Websphere installation.

    5. (Conditional) To import the master key value on your cluster environment, select Yes and specify the master key value. You can find the master key value from your previous configurations of JBoss or Websphere application servers.

    6. In the Configure IDM page, select Configure Later and click Next.

    7. Review the Pre-Installation Summary page and click Install.

  5. Open the Configuration Update utility:

    /opt/netiq/idm/apps/UserApplication

For more information about specifying values for the settings, see Section 40.0, Configuring the Settings for the Identity Applications.

  6. Click Save.

  7. (Conditional) Upgrade to the latest Identity Manager 4.5 service pack.

NOTE:If you want to upgrade to Identity Manager 4.6, you need not upgrade to the latest Identity Manager service pack.

  8. Start the Tomcat Application server and verify that Identity Applications are deployed correctly.

After migration is complete, upgrade the Identity applications. For more information, see Upgrading Identity Applications and Supporting Components.
