A.3 Password Field Descriptor

The password field descriptor is only available if NESCM is installed with the Novell Client.

The Password field descriptor is applicable during login, from Red N Menu, unlock the workstation for Novell Client for Windows 5.x (that is XP). For Windows 6.x (that is Vista/7/Server 2003/Server 2008), the password field descriptor is only applicable during login from the Red N Menu. For other login and unlocking workstation use cases, currently, the Novell Client does not change the Password label.

The Novell Client login dialog box uses the Password string as the label for the password entry field. When using a smart card for login, the user enters the smart card PIN to log in. To help eliminate confusion, a custom string can be specified and used instead of the “Password” string.

For example, &PIN: could be specified. The ampersand (&) in the string is used to enable the Windows Alt+letter focus functionality. The setup program uses a default descriptor string of “&PIN:”.

For information on changing the password field descriptor, see Password Field Descriptor.
