Use this Knowledge Script to monitor Domain Name Service (DNS) server recursive query activity. This script checks the number of recursive query errors or timeouts per second, and raises an event if the number of recursive query error or timeouts per second exceeds the rate threshold you set.
DNS folder
The default interval for this script is Every 10 minutes.
Set the following parameters as needed:

Collect data? |
Set to y to collect data for charts and reports. If enabled, data collection returns the number of recursive queries, failures, and timeouts per second. The default is n. |
Recursive query errors/timeouts |
Specify the maximum number of recursive query errors or timeouts per second that can occur before an event is raised. The default is 2. |
Event severity |
Set the event severity level, from 1 to 40, to indicate the importance of an event in which the number of recursive query errors or timeouts exceeds the threshold. The default is 8 (red event indicator). |
