AppManager for IBM WebSphere Application Server UNIX delivers the functionality you need to optimize the performance and availability of your WebSphere Application Server UNIX environment. In addition to delivering comprehensive event management and proactive alert messaging, AppManager for WebSphere Application Server UNIX checks for potential problems, triggers appropriate actions and gathers long-term data for planning, analysis and reporting.

This release improves usability and resolves previous issues. Many of these improvements were made in direct response to suggestions from our customers. We thank you for your time and valuable input. We hope you continue to help us ensure our products meet all your needs. System Requirements

For the most recently updated list of supported application versions, see the AppManager Supported Products page. Unless noted otherwise, this module supports all updates, hotfixes, and service packs for the releases listed below.

AppManager for WebSphere Application Server UNIX has the following system requirements:

  • AppManager version 7.0 or later installed on the AppManager repository (QDB) computer and on all console computers
  • One of the following versions of NetIQ UNIX agent installed on the computers you want to monitor (agent computers):
    • UNIX agent 7.2 with patch 7.2.0.4
    • UNIX agent 7.1 with patch 7.1.0.48
  • One of the following versions of IBM WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment, or WebSphere Application Server - Express installed on the agent computer:
    • 8.5
    • 8.0
    • 7.0
    • 6.1

Contents of the Download Package

The download package includes this Readme, a management guide, Help for Knowledge Scripts, and several files that are used during installation:

  • p71p48.zip, the patch file you install on any computers you want to monitor that have the UNIX agent 7.1 installed.
  • p72p4.zip, the patch file you install on any computers you want to monitor that have the UNIX agent 7.2 installed.
  • AM70-WebSphereAppSrvUNIX-7.9.20.0.msi, the program you use to install the module to the AppManager repository (QDB) and AppManager console computers.
  • AM70-WebSphereAppSrvUNIX-7.9.20.0.ini, a configuration file used with the AppManager setup program.
  • AM70-WebSphereAppSrvUNIX-7.9.20.0.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center. This is the file you check into the Control Center Web Depot.
  • AM70-WebSphereAppSrvUNIX-7.9.20.0-RepositoryFiles.exe, a compressed file that contains the QDB and console files. You do not need to run this file during installation.

When you download the module, these files are copied by default to the local folder on the download computer. Consider copying these files to the \windows_installation\setup\Setup Files folder on the same distribution computer on which you saved your main AppManager software and documentation. By doing so, you maintain all AppManager software in one location that is easily accessible when you want to add more repositories, management servers, or agents.

Installing This Module

The following steps provide an overview of how install this module:

  1. On computers you want to monitor, either install UNIX agent 7.2 with patch 7.2.0.4 or UNIX agent 7.1 with patch 7.1.0.48. The files to install the patch are included in this download package.
  2. Install the Knowledge Scripts to your AppManager QDB using AM70-WebSphereAppSrvUNIX-7.9.20.0.msi, which is included in this download package.
  3. Install the Help and console extensions to all AppManager consoles using AM70-WebSphereAppSrvUNIX-7.9.20.0.msi. You do not need to use this installer on the UNIX Agent Manager console.
  4. Add the computers you want to monitor to the list of computers in all consoles you use to monitor those computers.
  5. Discover any new computers you want to monitor.
  6. If you are upgrading from a previous version of the module, upgrade any running jobs.

Known Issues

NetIQ Corporation strives to ensure our products provide quality solutions for your enterprise software needs. The following issues are currently being researched. If you need further assistance with any issue, please contact Technical Support.

  • On computers running HP-UX, AppManager log files contain a /bin/sh: #### Memory fault(coredump) message even though no significant problem exists with the module or WebSphere Application Server. (DOC324994)
  • Discovery fails on computers running the UNIX agent 7.2 running under a non-root account. To work around this issue, the non-root user account used to run the UNIX Agent must have access permissions on WebSphere Application Server directory. (DOC320246)
  • Analysis Center cannot use WebSphere data with dynamic legends if the data is gather using UNIX agent 7.2. For more information about the status of a resolution to this issue, see the Knowledge Base on the NetIQ Technical Support Site. (ENG321046)
  • Discovery fails if you provide a HTTP over SSL (HTTPS) URL for the Perfservlet. (ENG325393)
