We hope you continue to help us ensure our products meet all your needs. You can post feedback in the AppManager forum on Qmunity, our community Web site that also includes product notifications, blogs, and product user groups.

This document outlines why you should install this module, lists installation requirements, and identifies known issues. For more information about installing the module, see the AppManager for Nortel Communication Server 2000/2100 Management Guide, included in the download package.

Why Install This Release?

Release 7.1.120.0 of AppManager for Nortel CS2x provides support for the following:

  • Identifying phones to monitor. The AddPhone Knowledge Script lets you add Nortel IP phones as resource objects for monitoring by the PhoneQuality script.
  • Diagnosing call quality on demand. The PhoneDiagnostic Knowledge Script launches NetIQ Vivinet Diagnostics on demand to diagnose call quality between two specified phones.
  • Monitoring mid-call voice quality statistics. The PhoneQuality Knowledge Script monitors real-time voice quality statistics from active calls on IP phones: jitter, latency, packet loss, MOS (Mean Opinion Score), and R-Value.
  • Monitoring mid-call voice quality alerts. The CallAlert Knowledge Script monitors mid-call alerts (vqalerts) generated when voice quality thresholds are exceeded.
  • Taking an inventory of phones. The RetrieveConfigData Knowledge Script retrieves phone configuration information from Element Managers. The PhoneInventory Knowledge Script creates an inventory of phones based on that information and the criteria you select.
  • Removing phones from monitoring. The RemovePhone Knowledge Script lets you remove Nortel IP phones from the list of resource objects.
  • Integration with NetIQ Vivinet Diagnostics. Vivinet Diagnostics can diagnose the problems identified in events raised by the CallQuality and PhoneQuality Knowledge Scripts. For more information, see the Help for either script and the User Guide for Vivinet Diagnostics.
  • New recommended Knowledge Scripts. The Recommended Knowledge Script Group now includes the CallActivity, CallFailures, CallQuality, and CollectorHealth Knowledge Scripts.
  • Remote supplemental database. You can create the Nortel CS2x supplemental database on the proxy agent computer or on a remote SQL Server computer.

This release of AppManager for Nortel CS2x replaces all Previous Releases.

System Requirements

For the most recently updated list of supported application versions, see the AppManager Supported Products Web site.

AppManager for Nortel CS2x has the following system requirements:

  • At minimum, AppManager version 7.x installed on the AppManager repository computer, and on all proxy agent and console computers
Note Support for Windows Server 2008 requires hotfix 71704, or the most recent AppManager Windows Agent hotfix. For more information, see the AppManager Suite Hotfixes Web page.
  • One of the following Microsoft operating systems installed on the proxy agent computer:
    • Windows XP Professional SP2
    • 32-bit or 64-bit Windows Server 2003 SP2, including R2, Standard or Enterprise Edition
    • 32-bit or 64-bit Windows Server 2008 SP1 and SP2, Standard or Enterprise Edition
    • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • One of the following versions of Microsoft SQL Server installed on the proxy agent computer for support of the supplemental database:
    • 32-bit SQL Server 2005, including SP2
    • 32-bit SQL Server 2008 Express
    • 64-bit SQL 2008 Enterprise
    Notes
    • If you are using SQL Server 2008, also install the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components, which are part of the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Feature Pack. SQL Server 2008 lacks the SQL-DMO client API required by the NortelCS2x_SetupSupplementalDB Knowledge Script. The Feature Pack contains the necessary API library. For more information, see the Microsoft Download Center.
    • You can install the supplemental database on a computer other than the proxy agent computer, but that computer must meet the same system requirements as the proxy agent computer.
  • Nortel CS2000 or CS2100, with the following requirements:
    • Nortel CS2000: Software version SN10, CVM11, CVM12, CVM13, CVM14, or CVM15
    • Nortel CS2100: Software version SE10, SE11, or SE13
    • Phase 2 Unistim phones
    • One of the following CICM versions:
      • CICM 11 P9, at minimum
      • CICM 10.1 MR2 P28, at minimum
Note This module can monitor both Nortel CS2000 and CS2100 systems only if all systems are running the same version number. For example, this module supports CS2000 running CVM11 and CS2100 running SE11.
  • Microsoft .NET Framework, version 3 or 3.5, installed on the proxy agent computer for support of the collector services
  • Telnet and sFTP connectivity on the proxy agent computer, to enable log transfers and to enable report transfers
  • NetIQ Vivinet Diagnostics, version 2.3 or later, installed on the computer on which the Action_DiagnoseVoIPQuality Knowledge Script runs (either the proxy agent computer or the Management Server, depending on your configuration). This same computer requires either Microsoft XML Parser version 3 (or later), or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 with SP 2 or later.
  • AppManager for Microsoft Windows module version 7.6.170.0, at minimum, installed on the repository, proxy agent, and console computers

For more information, see the AppManager for Nortel Communication Server 2100 Management Guide, included in the download package.

Contents of the Download Package

AppManager for Nortel CS2x includes a managed object, qNQNortelCS2x.dll, Knowledge Scripts to discover and monitor Nortel CS2x resources, and collectors that run as Windows services: log collector, OM file collector, QoS file collector, and QoS syslog collector. The download package includes this Readme, a management guide, Help for Knowledge Scripts, and several files that are used during installation:

  • AM70-NortelCS2x-7.1.120.0.msi, the application module setup program.
  • AM70-NortelCS2x-7.1.120.0.ini, a configuration file used with the AppManager setup program.
  • AM70-NortelCS2x-7.1.120.0.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center. This file is the file you check into the Control Center Web Depot.
  • ckNortelCS2x.exe, the pre-installation check used with the AppManager setup program.

When you download the module, these files are copied by default to the local folder on the download computer. You should copy these files to the \windows_installation\setup\Setup Files directory on the same distribution computer on which you saved your main AppManager software and documentation. By doing so, you maintain all AppManager software in one location that is easily accessible when you want to add more repositories, management servers, or agents.

Installing This Module

Install the module in the following locations:

  • On all AppManager repository (QDB) computers to install Knowledge Scripts
  • On all proxy agent computers you want to monitor (agents)
  • On all console computers to install the Help and console extensions

Note If you are upgrading from AppManager for Nortel CS2x version 7.0 to version 7.1, you must install the module on the repository and proxy agent computers. The module will not work if you do not upgrade your repository and proxy agent computers. After upgrading, you will need to re-run the Discovery and SetupSupplementalDB scripts. These two jobs may be combined into one if you select the Set up supplemental database? parameter in the Discovery job.

For more information about installing the module, see the AppManager for Nortel Communication Server 2100 Management Guide, included in the download package.

Known Issues

NetIQ Corporation strives to ensure our products provide quality solutions for your enterprise software needs. The following issues are currently being researched. If you need further assistance with any issue, please contact Technical Support.

  • Call quality statistics occasionally inconsistent. Occasionally, the data the CallQuality Knowledge Script returns is inconsistent, such as packet loss of 2.1%, which is a very noticeable call impairment, paired with a MOS score of 4.1, which indicates almost perfect call quality. These inconsistent statistics are retrieved directly from CICM Element Manager syslogs. Contact Avaya product support for the most recent information on corrective content related to Avaya product support issue 100929-10110. (ENG263242, DOC299636)
  • Running two CollectorHealth jobs returns incorrect data streams. When two CollectorHealth Knowledge Script jobs run on the same Nortel CS2x resource at the same time, each job can return data about the same records. Therefore, data streams for each job may reflect duplicate data. (ENG259311)
  • No event raised when collector service not configured. If you do not configure a collector service when you run Discovery_NortelCS2x and then run the Knowledge Script associated with the collector service, the Knowledge Script job does not return data and does not raise an event indicating no data was available. (ENG261972)
  • Incorrect formatting in Nortel CS2x logs skews LogQuery results. Formatting discrepancies between the Report Date field and the Time field in the MGTH logs may prevent the LogQuery Knowledge Script job from identifying the newest log. NetIQ Corporation is working with Avaya product support to resolve this problem. (ENG269411)
  • Deleting old records increases size of tempdb file. A SQL Server job, NortelCS2x_DeleteOldRecords, runs daily to delete old records from the Nortel CS2x supplemental database. The size of the tempdb.ldf file temporarily increases while the SQL Server job is running. For more information, see the following Microsoft TechNet article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc966545.aspx.
  • Requests for data sent to the Nortel CICM can be rejected. Requests for data sent to the Nortel CICM can be rejected after a specific number of requests. This is an issue in the Nortel CICM. To address this issue, ensure your system has the following corrective content: Patch set 10.1MR2 P28 for CICM load 10MR2 and patch set 11MR2 P9 for CICM load 11. If you require this content, contact Avaya product support. (ENG276231)

The contents of the NOTICE file are for informational purposes only and do not modify the License. You may add Your own attribution notices within Derivative Works that You distribute, alongside or as an addendum to the NOTICE text from the Work, provided that such additional attribution notices cannot be construed as modifying the License.

You may add Your own copyright statement to Your modifications and may provide additional or different license terms and conditions for use, reproduction, or distribution of Your modifications, or for any such Derivative Works as a whole, provided Your use, reproduction, and distribution of the Work otherwise complies with the conditions stated in this License.
    5. Submission of Contributions. Unless You explicitly state otherwise, any Contribution intentionally submitted for inclusion in the Work by You to the Licensor shall be under the terms and conditions of this License, without any additional terms or conditions. Notwithstanding the above, nothing herein shall supersede or modify the terms of any separate license agreement you may have executed with Licensor regarding such Contributions.
    6. Trademarks. This License does not grant permission to use the trade names, trademarks, service marks, or product names of the Licensor, except as required for reasonable and customary use in describing the origin of the Work and reproducing the content of the NOTICE file.

    9. Accepting Warranty or Additional Liability. While redistributing the Work or Derivative Works thereof, You may choose to offer, and charge a fee for, acceptance of support, warranty, indemnity, or other liability obligations and/or rights consistent with this License. However, in accepting such obligations, You may act only on Your own behalf and on Your sole responsibility, not on behalf of any other Contributor, and only if You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold each Contributor harmless for any liability incurred by, or claims asserted against, such Contributor by reason of your accepting any such warranty or additional liability.
