Why Install This Release?

Release 7.1.298.0 of AppManager for Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 resolves the following issues:

  • Analysis Center cannot generate reports on all data. This release resolves an issue where NetIQ Analysis Center cannot process data from some Knowledge Scripts. With this release, Analysis Center can create reports using data from all Knowledge Scripts. (ENG307280, ENG234089)
  • AppManager inaccurately reports that the Exchange service is down. This release resolves an issue where Exchange_InactiveMailboxes and Exchange_ServerHealth Knowledge Script jobs fail with an error that reports that the Exchange service is down when the service is running. With this release, failed jobs return more accurate and informative messages. (ENG292206)
  • AppManager not reporting number of sent messages. This release resolves an issue where AppManager does not correctly report information from Exchange2000_MsgsWithinAdminGroup Knowledge Script regarding the number of sent messages in the Administrator Group. (ENG307796)

This release of AppManager for Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 replaces all Previous Releases.

  • One of the following versions of Microsoft Exchange installed on the agent computer:
    • Microsoft Exchange 2000

Contents of the Download Package

AppManager for Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 includes a managed object, qexch2kla4.exe, and Knowledge Scripts to discover and monitor Exchange resources. The download package includes this ReadMe, a management guide, Help for Knowledge Scripts, and several files that are used during installation:

  • AM70-Exchange2000-7.1.298.0.msi, the application module setup program.
  • AM70-Exchange2000-7.1.298.0.ini, a configuration file used with the AppManager setup program.
  • AM70-Exchange2000-7.1.298.0.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center. This is the file you check into the Control Center Web Depot.
  • ckExch2k.exe, the pre-installation check used with the AppManager setup program.

When you install the module, these files are copied by default to the local folder on the download computer. Consider copying these files to the \windows_installation\setup\Setup Files directory on the same distribution computer on which you saved your main AppManager software and documentation. By doing so, you maintain all AppManager software in one location that is easily accessible when you want to add more repositories, management servers, or agents.

Installing This Module

Run the module installer to install the module components in the following locations:

  • On the Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 computers you want to monitor (agents) to install the agent components
  • On all console computers to install the Help and console extensions

Run the module installer only once on each of these computers.

You must also install the Knowledge Scripts and, where relevant, the Analysis Center reports. You can install these module components to either local or remote databases:

  • When installing to the primary QDB, select the option to install Knowledge Scripts, and then specify the SQL Server name of the server hosting the QDB, as well as the case-sensitive QDB name.
  • If Analysis Center reports are available for this module, select the option to install Analysis Center reports, and then specify the SQL Server name of the server hosting the Analysis Center Configuration Database.

Important If you use Control Center 7.x, run the module installer for each QDB attached to Control Center. If you use Control Center 8.x, run the module installer only for the primary QDB, and Control Center will automatically replicate this module to secondary QDBs.

You need to install Knowledge Scripts and Analysis Center reports only once per database. The module installer now installs Knowledge Scripts for each module directly into the QDB instead of to the \AppManager\qdb\kp folder as in previous releases.

For more information about installing the module, see the AppManager for Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 Management Guide, included in the download package.

Known Issues

NetIQ Corporation strives to ensure our products provide quality solutions for your enterprise software needs. The following issues are currently being researched. If you need further assistance with any issue, please contact Technical Support.

  • Mailbox and profile information not updated in Security Manager. If you are running AppManager version 7.0.1 and install AppManager for Exchange 2000 and 2003 on a cluster configured with eight EVSs, the mailbox and profile information you provide during installation is not always updated in AppManager Security Manager. You can update the information manually in Security Manager. For more information, see "Configuring Exchange Server Mailbox and Profile Information in Security Manager" in the AppManager for Exchange 2000 and 2003 Management Guide, included in the download package. (ENG253119)
  • No task created for Remote Deployment or Remote Deployment installation fails for AppManager for Exchange 2000 and 2003. When using Control Center, in some cases a Remote Deployment task will not be created for AppManager for Exchange 2000 and 2003. For cases where a task is created, Remote Deployment will fail on the targeted Exchange 2000 or 2003 server that is not also functioning as a Domain Controller. (ENG249466)
  • Control Center remote deployment not supported for clustered environments. In clustered environments, you can install the module on a remote computer in one of two ways:
    • If you have already installed the AppManager agent on a remote computer, run the AM70-Exchange2000-7.1.298.0.msi setup program on the remote computer.
    • If you have not installed the AppManager agent on a remote computer, run the AMSetup.exe program to install both the agent and the module on the remote computer. (ENG235846)
  • Hotfix required for virtual server support with AppManager version 7.0.1. You must apply hotfix 71264 to ensure that the Exchange Server works with the virtual server support in AppManager version 7.0.1.

Previous Releases

This release of AppManager for Exchange 2000 and 2003 includes enhancements added in previous releases.

Release 7.1.277.0, June 2009

This release resolved the following issue:

  • Exchange_TopNISMailboxRes cannot report accurate size for mailboxes over 8 GB. Before you install this release, the Exchange_TopNISMailRes Knowledge Script cannot accurately calculate the size of mailboxes that are larger than 8 gigabytes. After you install this release, a change in the logic for the Exchange_TopNISMailRes Knowledge Script allows it to accurately configure the size of mailboxes that are 8 gigabytes and larger. (ENG262421)

Hotfix 71403, April 2009

Hotfix 71403 resolved the following issues:

  • Discovery job fails on an EMC AutoStart cluster. Before you install this release, the Discovery_Exchange Knowledge Script job fails when you run it on an EMC AutoStart cluster. The Discovery job attempts to query the ComputerName registry value, which is not the virtual server name, and so the Discovery job fails. After you install this release, the Discovery job instead queries the ActiveComputerName registry value, which contains the virtual server name. (ENG257892)
  • Managed object fails when logging attempted. Before you install this release, the AppManager for Exchange 2000 and 2003 managed object, qexch2kla4.exe, fails when it attempts to create entries in ckExch2k.log. After you install this release, a change to the code in the managed object allows it to successfully perform logging. (ENG258053)

Release 7.1, October 2008

This release provided the following enhancements:

  • New Knowledge Script for parsing Exchange log files. The Exchange_LogParser Knowledge Script is available on the Exchange tab of the Operator Console. Run this Knowledge Script to parse Microsoft Exchange 2000 or 2003 log files and run queries on the log files. Use Query Builder to build your query statement. For more information, see the Help for the LogParser Knowledge Script.
  • Support for IPv6. This release adds support for Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). AppManager for Microsoft Exchange 2000 or 2003 recognizes and displays IPv6 addresses in the Operator Console and Control Center.

Release 7.0, March 2007

This release provided the following enhancements:

  • Support for monitoring up to eight Exchange Virtual Servers (EVS)
  • A new AppManager for Exchange 2000 or 2003 Management Guide
  • Documentation for the DynSecsOldestMsgInMTAQueue Knowledge Script
