AppManager for Lotus Domino

Version 7.4.68.0

Readme

Date Published: March 2013

AppManager for Lotus Domino gives you a comprehensive view of Domino server performance. The Knowledge Scripts in the Domino category allow you to monitor the status of the Domino server and the activities occurring on the Domino server, generate reports about the Domino server and about the activities occurring on the Domino server, and check the Domino log for errors.

This release improves usability and resolves previous issues. Many of these improvements were made in direct response to suggestions from our customers. We thank you for your time and valuable input. We hope you continue to help us ensure our products meet all your needs. You can post feedback in the AppManager forum on Qmunity, our community Web site that also includes product notifications, blogs, and product user groups.

For more information about this release and for the latest management guides, see the AppManager Documentation page. To download this module and view the latest release notes, see the AppManager Module Upgrades & Trials page.

What's New?

This release of AppManager for Lotus Domino resolves the following issue:

  • Domino_ServerAvailability and Domino_TaskAvailability Knowledge Scripts incorrectly generate events stating that the Domino server is down. This release resolves an issue in which the Domino_ServerAvailability script incorrectly reported a Domino server as down when the server was still up, because the script could not locate the required Domino task log files. The Domino_TaskAvailability script also exhibited the same behavior. With this release, both scripts can locate the relevant task log files, and the incorrect server-down events do not occur. (ENG324988, ENG324597)

To get the updates provided in this release, you must install the module to the repository (QDB) and on the agent computer, and then propagate changes to any running jobs for the Knowledge Scripts that were updated in this release. AppManager 7.x does not automatically update renamed or copied Knowledge Scripts. For more information, see the "Upgrading Knowledge Script Jobs" section in the management guide.

This release of AppManager for Lotus Domino replaces all Previous Releases.

Contents of the Download Package

AppManager for Lotus Domino includes a managed object, NQDominoMonitor.exe, and Knowledge Scripts to discover and monitor Lotus Domino resources. The download package also includes this Readme, a management guide, Help for Knowledge Scripts, and several files that are used during installation or Control Center deployment:

  • AM70-Domino-7.4.68.0.msi, the module installer.
  • AM70-Domino-7.4.68.0.ini, a configuration file used with the AppManager setup program.
  • AM70-Domino-7.4.68.0.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center. This is the file you check into the Control Center Web Depot.
  • AM70-Domino-7.4.68.0-RepositoryFiles.exe, a compressed file that contains the QDB and console files. You do not need to run this file during installation.
  • DefaultRule_Domino.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center.
  • ckDom.exe, the pre-installation check used with the main AppManager setup program.

When you download the module, these files are copied by default to the local folder on the download computer. Consider copying these files to the \windows_installation\setup\Setup Files folder on the same distribution computer on which you saved your main AppManager software and documentation. By doing so, you maintain all AppManager software in one location that is easily accessible when you want to add more repositories, management servers, or agents.

Installing This Module

Run the module installer to install the module components in the following locations:

  • On the Lotus Domino servers you want to monitor (agents) to install the agent components
  • On all console computers to install the Help and console extensions

Run the module installer only once on each of these computers.

You must also install the Knowledge Scripts. You can install these components into local or remote QDBs. When installing to the primary QDB, select the option to install Knowledge Scripts, and then specify the SQL Server name of the server hosting the QDB, as well as the case-sensitive QDB name.

Important If you use Control Center 7.x, run the module installer for each QDB attached to Control Center. If you use Control Center 8.x, run the module installer only for the primary QDB, and Control Center will automatically replicate this module to secondary QDBs.

Install Knowledge Scripts only once per QDB. The module installer now installs Knowledge Scripts for each module directly into the QDB instead of to the \AppManager\qdb\kp folder as in previous releases.

For more information about installing this module, see the AppManager for Lotus Domino Management Guide, included in the download package.

Known Issues

NetIQ Corporation strives to ensure our products provide quality solutions for your enterprise software needs. The following issues are currently being researched. If you need further assistance with any issue, please contact Technical Support.

  • The deployment task does not get created on 64-bit Windows operating systems. If you attempt to create and enable a rule with the latest Domino build, the deployment task for that rule does not get created on a computer running a 64-bit Windows operating system. (ENG307757)
  • The Domino_TaskAvailability and Domino_ServerAvailability Knowledge Scripts do not function when multiple user sessions are connected to a terminal-services-based Lotus Domino Server. This issue occurs when the Lotus Domino server starts as a console application and not as a service.
  • Legend strings in the chart generated by the Report_DatabaseSize Knowledge Script are not readable. When the monitored environment contains more than 40 databases, the legend strings in the chart generated by the Report_DatabaseSize Knowledge Script are not readable.
  • Action_SMTPMailRpt will not send reports to Lotus Notes client because of a limitation with Lotus Notes in displaying images. For more information, see the IBM Technote titled "Documents containing .png images display a red X in Notes" on the IBM Support Web site.

Previous Releases

This release of AppManager for Lotus Domino includes enhancements added in previous releases.

Release 7.4.63.0, October 2012

This release of AppManager for Lotus Domino resolved the following issues:

  • The Domino_TaskAvailability Knowledge Script cannot handle long strings listing the third-party tasks to monitor. This release resolves an issue in which the Third-party tasks to monitor parameter for the Domino_TaskAvailability script could not use a string that contained more than 129 characters. With this release, an update to the script enables it to handle longer strings for this parameter. (ENG324127)
  • The Domino_TaskDown Knowledge Script does not generate an event when an ICM task is down. This release resolves an issue in which the Domino_TaskDown job failed to raise an event when an Internet Cluster Manager (ICM) task was down. In addition, if you added the ICM task to the Additional tasks to monitor parameter, the Domino_TaskDown job raised an event if the ICM task was down, but the job continued raising events that the ICM task was down when it was actually back up again. With this release, an update to the managed object for this module prevents both situations with the Domino_TaskDown script. (ENG323422)

Release 7.4.59.0, March 2012

This release of AppManager for Lotus Domino resolved the following issue:

  • The Domino_TaskDown Knowledge Script incorrectly lists all tasks as down. This release resolves an issue in which the Domino_TaskDown job incorrectly stated that all tasks were down when the Domino Server ran as a service. With this release, an update to the managed object for this module prevents this situation from occurring in the Domino_TaskDown script. (ENG317026)

Release 7.4.56.0, November 2011

This release of AppManager for Lotus Domino resolved the following issue:

  • Domino_NotesMailStats Knowledge Script incorrectly raises data acquisition events. This release resolves an issue in some environments where the Domino_NotesMailStats Knowledge Script generated data acquisition events when you set the Data Acquisition Problems: Raise event if data otherwise unavailable? parameter to no. Setting the parameter to no prevents the Knowledge Script from raising events such as No Stat Data: Mail.TransferFailure if no data is available, such as when a server restarts. With this release, the Knowledge Script properly raises data acquisition events based on the setting of the parameter. (ENG313173)

Release 7.4.54.0, June 2011

This release added the following support:

  • Domino version 8.5.2.
  • Microsoft Windows 2008 R2.

In addition, this release resolved the following issue:

  • Domino_CPUUtil Knowledge Script Reporting Elevated Values for Processor Time. This release resolves an issue where the percent of processor time is reported as more than 100% in environments where performance counters are duplicated in the registry file. (ENG306216).

Release 7.4.52.0, May 2011

This release added the following support:

  • Domino version 8.5.1.

Release 7.4.46.0, March 2011

This release resolved the following issues:

  • The LogSniff Knowledge Script generates output files but does not delete them. This release resolves an issue in which the LogSniff Knowledge Script generated output files with a file extension of .out in the \NetIQ\Temp folder and did not delete them. (ENG295471)
  • Domino server occasionally stops unexpectedly. This release resolves an issue in which a memory corruption error in nnetiq.exe caused the Domino server to stop unexpectedly. (ENG291749)
  • The GetStat Knowledge Script incorrectly reports the average LDAP search time as zero. This release resolves an issue in which AppManager reported the average LDAP search time as zero when the actual value was not zero, but less than one. In previous releases, the Knowledge Script incorrectly rounded this value to zero.
  • The GetStat Knowledge Script Domino statistic to monitor parameter converts spaces to commas. This release resolves an issue in which the Domino statistic to monitor parameter in the GetStat Knowledge Script did not correctly handle values with spaces in them, incorrectly converting the spaces to commas.

Release 7.4.28.0, April 2010

This release resolved the following issue:

  • Spaces replaced with commas in lists of database names. This release resolves an issue in which AppManager replaces spaces with commas in lists of database names in Knowledge Script parameters. (ENG284900)
  • DBDocNumber job does not raise events or collect data. This release resolves an issue in which the Domino_DBDocNumber Knowledge Script job does not raise events or collect data when the View name or formula for monitored database parameter is set to filter by database view name, rather than selection formula. With this release, a code change allows the Domino_DBDocNumber Knowledge Script job to collect data and raise events when filtering by database view name. (ENG285839)

Release 7.4.21.0, August 2009

This release provided support for 32- and 64-bit Lotus Domino, version 8.5, and 32- and 64-bit Windows Server 2008 environments.
