4.1 Understanding Upgrade Prerequisites

This section describes prerequisites your environment must meet before you upgrade Control Center components.

4.1.1 Understanding Control Center Versions Supported for Upgrade

Before you upgrade Control Center components, the components must be version 8.2. If a component does not meet the prerequisite, you can either uninstall it and install a new version 9.x component, or you can first upgrade it to version 8.2.

For more information about installing new version 9.x Control Center components, see Installing Control Center Components in the Installation Guide for AppManager.

For more information about obtaining a version of AppManager that is supported for upgrade, contact Technical Support.

4.1.2 Understanding Microsoft SQL Server Versions Supported for Upgrade

Version 9.x CCDBs must be hosted on one of the following versions of Microsoft SQL Server:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Standard or Enterprise edition

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Standard or Enterprise edition (32-bit or 64-bit)

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard or Enterprise edition (32-bit or 64-bit)

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard or Enterprise edition Service Pack 1 or later (32-bit or 64-bit)

For small environments with all components installed on the same computer, AppManager 9.x also supports hosting CCDBs on SQL Server Express, but you must perform a new installation. For information about installing a new CCDB, see Installing Control Center Components in the Installation Guide for AppManager.

AppManager 9.x supports migrating version 9.x CCDBs hosted on SQL Server 2008 or 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012 or 2014. For more information about migrating an upgraded CCDB, see Section A.0, Migrating Version 9.x Repositories.
