2.1 Understanding Upgrade Prerequisites

This section describes prerequisites your environment must meet before you upgrade management site components.

2.1.1 Understanding Component Versions Supported for Upgrade

Before you upgrade management site components, the components must be version 8.2. If a component does not meet the prerequisite, you can either uninstall it and install a new version 9.x component, or you can first upgrade it to version 8.2.

For more information about installing a new version 9.x QDB or management server, see Installing a Management Site in the Installation Guide for AppManager.

When you upgrade a management server, you also upgrade the agent on the management server computer. For more information about upgrading agents, see Section 3.0, Upgrading and Migrating Agent Components.

For more information about obtaining a version of AppManager that is supported for upgrade, contact Technical Support.

2.1.2 Understanding Microsoft SQL Server Versions Supported for Upgrade

Version 9.x QDBs must be hosted on one of the following versions of Microsoft SQL Server:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Standard or Enterprise edition

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Standard or Enterprise edition (32-bit or 64-bit)

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard or Enterprise edition (32-bit or 64-bit)

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard or Enterprise edition Service Pack 1 or later (32-bit or 64-bit)

For small environments with all components installed on the same computer, AppManager 9.x also supports hosting QDBs on SQL Server Express, but you must perform a new installation. For information about installing a new QDB, see Installing a Management Site in the Installation Guide for AppManager.

AppManager 9.x supports migrating version 9.x QDBs hosted on SQL Server 2008 or 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012 or 2014. For more information about migrating an upgraded QDB, see Section A.0, Migrating Version 9.x Repositories.
