The Deployment Web Service requires the Microsoft BITS operating system feature and the BITS Server Extensions component of Microsoft IIS. You must enable BITS and BITS Server Extensions on the Deployment Web Server before you install the Deployment Web Service. This section describes the steps required to enable BITS and BITS Server Extensions based on the operating system you are running.
To enable BITS and BITS Server Extensions on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2:
In the Add or Remove Programs application in Control Panel, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
Select Application Server and click Details.
Select Internet Information Services (IIS) and click Details.
Select Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) Server Extensions and click OK.
BITS Server Extensions includes the BITS operating system feature and the BITS Server Extensions component of Microsoft IIS.
Click OK to close the Application Server window.
Click Next and Finish.
To enable BITS and BITS Server Extensions on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or later:
In Server Manager, select Features and click Add Features.
(Conditional) If you are running Microsoft Windows Server 2008, select BITS Server Extensions.
BITS Server Extensions includes the BITS operating system feature and the BITS Server Extensions component of Microsoft IIS.
(Conditional) If you are running Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 or later, select Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS).
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) includes the BITS operating system feature and the BITS Server Extensions component of Microsoft IIS.
Click Install.
