3.13 HANIS Face

The HANIS (Home Affairs National Identification System) Face method is for the citizens of South Africa. This method enables you to enroll the personal identification number or passport number issued by Home Affairs National Identification System. When you try to authenticate on any device, the presented face is matched with the enrolled face in the HANIS database. If the images match, you are authenticated successfully.

NOTE:If the Passport number or National ID is not registered in the repository for a user profile, then the HANIS method is not enrolled automatically. However, you can manually enroll the HANIS Face method from the Authentication Methods page.

Table 3-7 HANIS Face authenticator - Expected error messages

Error

Possible Cause and Workaround

Capture Device cannot be opened

The camera is not connected properly. Check your camera settings and try again.

Timeout

The session has timed out. Present your face again for authentication.

Face Angle to Large

The out-of-plane rotation angle (face pitch and yaw) is too large.

Face cropped

Partial face captured. Capture full face for authentication.

Face is occluded

The face is covered with the mask or hat. Ensure to present full face.

Face not found

The face detector cannot identify the face in the image. The face detection is sensitive to a certain extent and may ignore faces in smaller pixels.

Face too small

The face is not large enough for analysis. The face can be considered small for multiple reasons:

  • Face size is too small in pixels.

  • Interpupillary distance is too small in pixels.

  • The difference between the image size and the face size is too large.

Too many faces

The face detector found multiple faces on the image.

Face close to border

The face is captured too close to the image borders.

Failed to predict landmarks

Face image captured is too blurry or of poor quality. Capture the face in a well-lit room without excessive movement.

Face too close

The face is too close to the camera. The distance between the face and the horizontal or vertical image borders is too small.
