By default card timeout is not considered as a logon failure. However, if required you can configure the card timeout as a logon failure. To enable logon failure during card timeout, perform the following steps:
Open the file C:\ProgramData\NetIQ\Windows Client\config.properties. If the file does not exist, create a new file.
Enter card.fail_on_timeout: true in the config.properties file.
Save the configuration file.
Restart the operating system.
