II Upgrading Access Manager Appliance

This section discusses how to upgrade Access Manager Appliance to the newer version. You must take a backup of the existing configurations before upgrading Access Manager Appliance.

NOTE:By default, the Access Manager configuration uses stronger TLS protocols, ciphers, and other security settings. If you want to revert these settings after upgrading, see Restoring Previous Security Level After Upgrading Access Manager Appliance in the NetIQ Access Manager Appliance 4.4 Security Guide.

Supported Upgrade Paths

To upgrade to Access Manager Appliance 4.4, you need to be on one of the following versions of Access Manager Appliance:

  • 4.2 Service Pack 2

  • 4.2 Service Pack 3 or 4.2 Service Pack 3 Hotfix 1

  • 4.2 Service Pack 4

  • 4.3 Service Pack 1 or 4.3 Service Pack 1 Hotfix 1

  • 4.3 Service Pack 2

To upgrade to Access Manager Appliance 4.4 Service Pack 1, you need to be on one of the following versions of Access Manager Appliance:

  • 4.2 Service Pack 4

  • 4.2 Service Pack 5

  • 4.3 Service Pack 2

  • 4.3 Service Pack 3

  • 4.4 or 4.4 Hotfix 1

To upgrade to Access Manager Appliance 4.4 Service Pack 2, you need to be on one of the following versions of Access Manager Appliance:

  • 4.3 Service Pack 3

  • 4.4 or 4.4 Hotfix 1

  • 4.4 Service Pack 1

  • 4.4 Service Pack 1 Hotfix 1

To upgrade to Access Manager Appliance 4.4 Service Pack 3, you need to be on one of the following versions of Access Manager Appliance:

  • 4.3 Service Pack 3

  • 4.3 Service Pack 3 Hotfix 1

  • 4.4 Service Pack 1

  • 4.4 Service Pack 1 Hotfix 1

  • 4.4 Service Pack 2

To upgrade to Access Manager Appliance 4.4 Service Pack 4, you need to be on one of the following versions of Access Manager Appliance:

  • 4.4 Service Pack 1

  • 4.4 Service Pack 1 Hotfix 1

  • 4.4 Service Pack 2

  • 4.4 Service Pack 3

IMPORTANT:If you are using SQL database and you are upgrading to Access Manager Appliance 4.4, you must run a utility to re-factor the database. This is to ensure that Access Manager Appliance and its associated products use the same naming convention.
