NetIQ Enhances Centralized Management of VMware Infrastructure
AppManager for VMware Comprehensively Manages the Performance and Availability of Hybrid Physical-Virtual Computing Environments
SAN FRANCISCO and HOUSTON
Today at VMworld 2007, NetIQ announced the latest version of its module for VMware, which extends NetIQ AppManager® software's monitoring, reporting, diagnostics and automated resolution capabilities to both the physical and virtual components of the hybrid infrastructure. With this module, NetIQ delivers the industry's most extensive management solution for the virtualized server stack from a centralized console.
"Maintaining optimum performance of applications and data across the infrastructure is our business, and as we continue to deploy virtual servers across our network to cut hardware costs, we run into the challenge of managing not only our physical environment, but our virtual environment as well," said Daniel Wooley, network engineer at DMSP. "AppManager already provides us with the ability to manage multiple infrastructure components and this new VMware module will allow us to extend those capabilities to our virtual machines and achieve complete system management."
As virtualized servers become the norm within enterprise IT environments, multiple business applications can be impacted by problems with the physical infrastructure they now share. Therefore, it is increasingly essential to monitor the entire virtualized stack, including the physical hardware, to ensure the successful delivery of IT services.
AppManager for VMware provides comprehensive performance and availability monitoring of the virtualized server stack—from VMware VirtualCenter and VMware ESX Server to the hardware and virtual machines—and reports on both virtual and hybrid virtual-physical environments through a central console. By leveraging AppManager software's core infrastructure, the AppManager for VMware module ensures that IT administrators can detect impending service disruptions from either virtual or physical components, and then take steps to prevent service outages.
Regardless of the type of environment—development, test or production—AppManager for VMware manages the system health of both VMware ESX Server and VirtualCenter. Not only can it raise alerts based on outages or degradation, but it also visually depicts their impact to business services in AppManager Control Center through service map views. Out-of-the-box integration with NetIQ Analysis Center, which provides trending and analytics, allows IT administrators to identify appropriate virtualization candidates, optimize virtual machine deployment and better manage hybrid environments.
"Our customers increasingly rely on VMware to deliver mission-critical services to the business, and they've been demanding a comprehensive view of performance and availability that reflects the virtual infrastructure within the context of their physical environment," said Joseph George, director, Product Management at NetIQ. "AppManager for VMware gives our customers assurance that their applications are performing well in the virtualized environment, and the comprehensive information they need to fix problems that arise within large-scale, distributed implementations."
NetIQ® AppManager squarely addresses the inherent management challenges of complex heterogeneous computing infrastructures. With support for over 65 industry-leading network devices, operating systems (Windows, UNIX and Linux), databases and mission-critical applications that drive and define today's business services, AppManager delivers the productivity and visibility enterprises demand of their systems management solutions. Furthermore, AppManager serves as the critical foundation needed for safely exploiting next-generation technologies, such as VMware ESX Server, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server and Exchange 2007, BlackBerry Enterprise Server and Cisco or Nortel IP Telephony (VoIP) solutions.
This release of AppManager for VMware will be available worldwide on October 15, 2007. For more information, please visit www.netiq.com/products/am/modules/vmware.asp.
