Red Robin Deploys NetIQ Products to Increase Security, Measure Performance and Meet Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance for Critical Systems

At NetConnect™ 2005, NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of integrated systems and security management solutions, today announced that Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, a national restaurant chain, has chosen NetIQ® AppManager® Suite and NetIQ Security Manager™ software to provide insight into the performance of its network and mission-critical applications such as VoIP, as well as meet Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Gain Network Visibility

With a small IT staff, it was essential for Red Robin to have visibility into its network to proactively monitor systems rather than reactively respond to emergencies and open issues from its end users. The team, which supports more than 140 employees at Red Robin’s corporate headquarters in Denver, Colo. and more than 150 restaurant sites across the U.S., implemented AppManager to assure the health of the network. This visibility has enabled the IT staff to immediately respond to irregularities in the network before disruption of critical business services can occur. As a result, Red Robin has been able to reduce network downtime by 50 percent and save approximately $130,000 in 2004.

Automate Tasks

In March 2004, Red Robin called in Performance Enhancements, Inc. (PEI), a member of the NetIQ® Authorized Reseller program, to help implement AppManager to automatically and proactively monitor its mission critical applications and network servers. This automation cut the administration time from eight to 12 hours a week, to one to two hours per week. For example, AppManager plays a critical role in maintaining the reliability and quality of Red Robin’s VoIP network. Since using AppManager, the IT team has noticed a 50 percent decrease of on-call inquiries and long distance phone calls. Automation of these tasks also has freed up team resources, allowing them to spend more time on implementing and deploying technology that assists in meeting Red Robin’s business objectives.

Enhance Security for Compliance

The restaurant chain deployed NetIQ Security Manager to assure that financial data, including daily earnings, were protected at all times. NetIQ Security Manager helped to assure internal controls, required as part of the Sarbanes-Oxley regulation. The internal controls included user account maintenance, enforcement of policies and data accessibility permissions.

In addition, NetIQ Security Manager provides Red Robin with the ability to correlate log events and then create new rules for alerting or blocking harmful activities. Red Robin uses NetIQ Security Manager to create rules that generate an alert when combinations of a high number of failed log-on attempts are followed by a reset of the Windows event log. NetIQ Security Manager provides the ability for Red Robin to view combinations of related events from routers and Windows logs and to then generate actions to stop malicious attempts to penetrate the network.
