NetIQ Announces New NetIQ Security Compliance Suite to Meet Customers’ Compliance Needs

Survey shows IT managers focused on regulatory compliance, insider threats

At NetConnect™ 2005, NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of integrated systems and security management solutions, today announced the NetIQ® Security Compliance Suite in both Standard and Enterprise editions. This new product offering is another way NetIQ is delivering on its unique strategy, Knowledge-Based Service Assurance, which provides customers with the knowledge that their enterprise is secure, available, performing optimally and also compliant with legal and corporate policies.

NetIQ also announced the results of a survey of more than 600 IT managers, conducted in March 2005, which indicated that more than half of the companies surveyed are affected by existing legislations including HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley.

“IT managers are searching for solutions that deliver knowledge to assist them in breaking down general regulations into specific checks, reports and remediation,” said Matt Dircks, senior vice president of Systems and Security Management Products at NetIQ. “There is a general lack of clarity and alignment between business owners and the IT organization. We are now offering the NetIQ Security Compliance Suite as part of our Knowledge-Based Service Assurance initiative to help bridge this gap and assist companies in their ongoing compliance efforts.”

The survey also found that 97 percent of IT managers are concerned with protecting sensitive information from employees and contractors. In today’s compliance driven environment, the insider poses the primary threat to an organization’s ability to maintain compliance with the vast array of regulatory initiatives of the enterprise including Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA and Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA).

The strong focus on compliance was also evident in a poll taken of 146 enterprise risk and IT managers by NetIQ during a compliance Webinar conducted in May 2005. More than half of the 146 respondents cited “loss of company revenue and reputation” as the main motivation for adhering to internal and external compliance issues.

In response to customer demand as seen in the survey and poll results, NetIQ will offer NetIQ Security Compliance Suite in both Standard and Enterprise editions. The Standard edition is made up of NetIQ Vulnerability Manager™ and the Log Manager module of NetIQ Security Manager™. It includes the following functionality for Windows environments:

  • Log Management: Collect, consolidate and analyze all audit logs in one easy-to-use interface.
  • Policy Compliance: Quickly and regularly assess all systems’ configurations for compliance with policy. Built in templates are available to help customers assess and report compliance against multiple regulations, including Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, GLBA, FERC and FDA.
  • Configuration &Vulnerability Assessment: Assure systems are up-to-date with the latest security patches and are not vulnerable or exploited by the latest malicious code.

The Enterprise edition includes the functionality of the Standard edition, and also provides real-time security monitoring through the Incident Manager module of NetIQ Security Manager. The Enterprise edition enables monitoring and alerting on policy changes, user account changes and suspicious network activity across the enterprise.

Pricing and Availability

NetIQ Security Compliance Suite will be available in May and will be sold in sets of 25 server licenses. The Standard Edition is priced at $800 per server and the Enterprise Edition is priced at $1,120 per server.
