WebTrends Sponsors ‘Tools for Schools’ Program
Donation of school supplies given to students on the first day of school
WebTrends, the web analytics market share leader and a business unit of NetIQ Corporation (NASDAQ: NTIQ), today announced that for a second year, it is a local sponsor and participant of Schoolhouse Supplies' Tools for Schools program, a project that matches schools in low-income neighborhoods with local businesses. As part of the program, WebTrends has adopted Peninsula Elementary School along with co-sponsor Clarity Visual Systems to provide funds and volunteer time to purchase and supply 380 backpacks filled with a year's worth of school supplies to students.
Schoolhouse Supplies recruits companies to "adopt" schools and provide backpacks full of school supplies to every student in the school at the beginning of the school year. Company volunteers get involved by "packing the packs" and handing them out during the first week of school.
"We have found Tools for Schools to be a great opportunity for our employees to give back to the community in a very tangible way," said Greg Drew, senior vice president and general manager of the WebTrends business unit of NetIQ. "As a local business, we feel it's important to get involved-and it's simply a gratifying experience to see the smiling faces of the students when they receive their new supplies."
WebTrends is located in Portland, Oregon, and has an active Community Involvement Committee consisting of more than 30 employees that plan the organization's volunteer efforts for charitable events. For example, 16 WebTrends employees have volunteered more than 300 hours this year reading to Peninsula Elementary School students as part of the Start Making a Reader Today (SMART) program. In the past year, the committee has also organized corporate sponsorship, donations and volunteer groups for several successful programs including the Oregon Food Bank Drive, OMSI's Tech Hall renovation, Friends of Trees, Portland State University's Mentor Program and the Oregon Public Broadcasting Pledge Drive.
