NetIQ Unveils Security Management Suite

Delivers Agile Security Management with Next Generation of Incident Management and Vulnerability Management Products; Inks Partnerships with TruSecure and Shavlik

Press Release

SAN JOSE, Calif.

NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq:NTIQ), a leading provider of Systems & Security Management and Web Analytics solutions, today unveiled NetIQ’s Security Management Suite. Incorporating new versions of NetIQ Vulnerability Manager™, NetIQ Patch Manager™ and NetIQ Security Manager™ (see related news releases), NetIQ’s Security Management Suite represents the only integrated, closed-loop approach to managing enterprise security.

NetIQ’s Security Management Suite is the first solution to provide customers with agile security management: the ability to proactively identify, reduce and respond to critical internal and external vulnerabilities and security threats within the IT infrastructure, while enabling compliance with both internal corporate policies and government regulatory statutes, including Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA. Unlike point solutions such as firewalls or antivirus products, which focus narrowly on isolated areas of enterprise security including intrusion detection or patch/configuration management, NetIQ’s new Security Management Suite enables organizations to employ a holistic, proactive approach to managing risk across the entire infrastructure while leveraging investments in existing operating systems, databases, web servers or security point solutions.

With more than 60,000 corporate customers worldwide, NetIQ is aggressively expanding its security management franchise to meet the changing needs of customers’ businesses. The suite is also designed to further drive the company’s top-line growth and broaden its market-leading position within systems and security management.

“Enabling an agile, closed-loop approach to managing security is a key pillar of our go-forward strategy,” said Matt Dircks, vice president of Security Management Products at NetIQ. “The introduction of this new suite demonstrates our commitment to providing market-leading security solutions to enterprises that have historically only been served by point solutions. We have a unique opportunity to provide customers with the right solution for addressing their total security needs, while establishing a first-mover advantage for the next step toward security and systems management convergence."

Key Partnerships: TruSecure and Shavlik

In addition to the introduction of the Security Management Suite, NetIQ today announced strategic partnerships with Herndon, VA.-based TruSecure and Rosedale, Minn.-based Shavlik. Offerings from both partners will play critical roles in providing NetIQ customers with a comprehensive approach to vulnerability management.

As the leading provider of independent vulnerability and security content, TruSecure’s technology will be included as a new vulnerability content service within NetIQ Vulnerability Manager 5.0. By integrating the latest vulnerability and security knowledge from TruSecure, customers will be able to assess risk levels in their environments in real time, reduce the time needed to identify and respond to risk and promote a closed-loop approach to vulnerability management.

As the clear market leader in enterprise patch management, Shavlik will provide technology that ensures a complete remediation solution for distributing and validating patches in Microsoft Windows environments. The integrated patch management product will be branded NetIQ Patch Manager.

Analyst Comments

“The ability to filter, collect and correlate data from network security devices is of utmost importance to companies investing in security management products today,” said Mark Nicolett, vice president at Gartner Inc., the world's leading technology research and advisory firm. “Of equal importance is integration of network threat information, vulnerability assessment and policy compliance data. Companies can easily become overwhelmed by the demands of maintaining a secure environment and the ability to turn data into meaningful information is a necessity.”
