Northern Natural Gas Optimizes Its IT Infrastructure with NetIQ
Expanding Natural Gas Pipeline Company Automates Performance and Availability; Active Directory Management to Streamline Operations
SAN JOSE, Calif.

NNG, which operates an interstate natural gas pipeline extending from the Permian Basin in Texas to the upper Midwest, will use NetIQ's systems management solution to monitor the performance and availability of its environment consisting of more than 300 servers running Microsoft Windows 2000 and 1,200 workstations. The company chose to deploy NetIQ's solution so it can optimize the utilization and productivity of IT resources through automation, advanced reporting, and analysis.
"NetIQ's systems management solution provides in-depth insights into specific applications across our entire Microsoft environment including the operating system, IIS servers, SQL database and Exchange," said Matt Hrynkow, systems architect at NNG. "The advantages provided by NetIQ's centralized console for control and monitoring of uptime performance, along with its capability to deliver automated reports to track activity and generate ad hoc reports for management, is having a significant impact on our infrastructure."
NNG was acquired by MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company in August 2002. As a result of this acquisition, NNG had to build its own IT infrastructure from scratch and manage the migration from its predecessor's facilities to its own IT systems as seamlessly as possible. Hrynkow said he found NetIQ® Directory and Resource Administrator™ especially useful in managing the transition of IT services to the new company.
