NetIQ Enhances One of the Industry’s Most Comprehensive Exchange Management Solutions to Support Microsoft Exchange Server 2003

Enterprises Demand Solutions for Migrating, Managing, Securing, Analyzing and Reporting on Mission-Critical Business Communications

Press Release

SAN JOSE, Calif.

NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of Systems & Security Management and Web Analytics solutions, today announced major enhancements to its Exchange Management solution. In addition to providing support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, NetIQ also announced AppAnalyzerTM for Exchange 3.0—a Web-based reporting and analysis solution that helps IT analyze and understand Exchange systems usage.

Since e-mail is now viewed as a real-time, business-critical communications medium, IT organizations are finding it more challenging to meet end-user e-mail performance and availability expectations. In addition, with the rising number of remote users and increasingly distributed infrastructures, successfully delivering on e-mail service level agreements requires a comprehensive Exchange management solution that not only alleviates migration challenges but also monitors the performance and availability from an end-user’s perspective. A comprehensive Exchange management solution should also provide policy-based content management, simplify administrative tasks, secure against malicious or unwanted content and deliver usage auditing as well as deep analysis and trend reporting. NetIQ’s Exchange Management solution—one of the industry’s most comprehensive management solution for Microsoft Exchange Server—delivers true end-to-end management whether enterprises are using Exchange 5.5, Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003.

“Effective Exchange management begins with a clean migration and requires a best practices approach that includes reporting and analysis. With the growing scrutiny of e-mail by business regulators and the courts, being able to understand and audit e-mail usage is also a key organizational requirement,” said Chris Baker, group product manager for Exchange at Microsoft Corp. “E-mail is mission-critical in many organizations today and NetIQ’s Exchange Management solution goes far beyond the requisite tasks of ensuring performance and availability.”

AppAnalyzer provides IT with extensive usage analysis and reporting on Exchange server utilization, messaging network traffic patterns, message delivery times, existence of unused public folders or distribution lists, presence of unauthorized e-mail recipients and any instances of personal use policy or privacy violations.

AppAnalyzer 3.0 is the first and only product in the market that provides in-depth Exchange Outlook Web Access usage analysis and reporting. This allows Exchange administrators to understand how Outlook Web Access is being used so they can better allocate resources and optimize performance. AppAnalyzer supports Exchange Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003.

“Prior to using AppAnalyzer, we didn’t have a clear sense of Exchange usage requirements across our different groups,” said John Shaw, corporate systems engineer at Cerner Corp. “Now, we can see where we need to dedicate more resources or capacity resulting in better messaging performance for our associates.”

Products that comprise NetIQ’s Exchange Management solution include:

  • NetIQ® Migration Suite helps assure smooth and efficient transitions from Windows NT and Exchange 5.5 to Active Directory, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2003 platforms
  • Exchange Administrator 7.0 provides single-point policy-based administration for Exchange mailbox management
  • AppManagerTM for Exchange optimizes Exchange server performance, monitors end-to-end connectivity and ensures high availability through monitoring, diagnostics and resolution, reporting and analysis as well as automation
  • AppAnalyzerTM for Exchange provides Web-based reporting and analysis that helps IT organizations analyze and understand the usage of their Exchange environment
  • NetIQ® MailMarshalTM detects and controls inappropriate e-mail content such as spam, jokes, chain letters and viruses

“We needed a solution that would enable us to manage our messaging environment in a holistic way so we could meet service level agreements across our enterprise, which encompasses over 100 servers,” said Adam Fazio, corporate messaging administrator at Mentor Graphics. “NetIQ’s Exchange Management solution gives us the power to set pre-defined measurement metrics, track individual traffic and storage usage as well as monitor acceptable use within our worldwide messaging environment.”

Horizons Consulting, an electronic messaging integration company and a NetIQ authorized consultant, knows the value of taking an end-to-end approach to messaging management. “As our customers migrate to a new Exchange platform, they need to know that they can optimize and assure the performance, availability and security of their new investment,” said Joe Cirillo, systems engineer at Horizons Consulting. “By combining the range of Exchange management solutions that NetIQ offers with the expertise of Horizons Consulting, we can meet the needs of our customers whether they’re moving to Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003.”
