Press Release

SAN JOSE, Calif.

NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of Systems & Security Management and Web Analytics solutions, today announced that NetIQÒ AppManagerÒ Suite played a critical role in helping 1-800-FLOWERS.COM successfully manage the processing of more than 970,000 orders during its past Mother’s Day sales period, April 28 through May 11, 2003.

Operating its customer-facing Web site on a Windows-based platform, 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, a leading multi-channel retailer of thoughtful gifts for all occasions, uses proactive management methods to maintain the high service levels that its shoppers demand. 1-800-FLOWERS.COM employs AppManager to manage utilization thresholds on all its Web and database servers, send alerts and monitor multiple, redundant SQL databases.

“Gift-giving is a highly emotional proposition, which is why it is imperative that service levels remain high at all times,” said Enzo Micali, chief technology officer for 1-800-FLOWERS.COM. “But in order to commit to a service level, you have to know what’s going on in your infrastructure. With AppManager, we are able to obtain information on performance that would have taken much more time and effort to get without it. As a result, we can commit to a specific level of service and continue to raise the bar.”

During this past Mother’s Day sales period, 1-800-FLOWERS.COM experienced record order volume with particular strength in online sales. As sales increased throughout the days leading up to the holiday, the company processed more than 150,000 orders per day—including thousands of orders taken and delivered on Mother’s Day.

AppManager provides 1-800-FLOWERS.COM the ability to conduct analysis after the given peak period and project what its resource requirements will be during the same holiday period in the coming year. Although the company possessed the ability in the past, AppManager changed the equation from a time-to-value perspective.

“We’ve had the capability to project resource requirements in the past, but it hasn’t been easily displayed in a graphical format,” Micali said. “Previously we had to pour over a lot of raw data and come to some conclusions. AppManager enables us to see immediately what our volume was and determine that we would need X number of resources next year with our projected growth.”
