NetIQ Announces WebTrends Kit for Macromedia Flash Providing First Simplified Flash Tracking and Measurement Solution
Recent Survey Indicates Misconception That Flash Tracking is Not Possible
SAN JOSE, CA.
NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of Systems & Security Management and Web Analytics solutions, today announced it is providing an easier method to measure and optimize Flash applications, through the availability of its free WebTrends® Developer Kit for Macromedia Studio MX 2004.
The WebTrends Developer Kit for Macromedia Studio MX 2004, including support for both Dreamweaver MX and Flash MX 2004, simplifies the process of installing client-side tags, enabling developers to easily tag specific visitor interactions through a simple drag-and-drop process from directly within the development environment. For Flash developers, this eliminates the burden of learning how to manually integrate analytics into a Flash application, which is both a difficult and time-consuming process. Marketers can now work directly with Flash developers to plan and implement a measurement strategy to determine the return on Flash investments.
During a recent interactive WebTrends Webcast on Flash Measurement, approximately 290 participants surveyed stated that while most have Flash applications today, 75% do not measure visitor behavior within their Flash content. Nearly 40% said the reason for not tracking Flash was due to the misconception that it was not possible.
“The measurement capabilities of Flash applications have been limited, but as Flash quickly becomes a critical business tool, its measurement is now more important than ever,” said Jeff Whatcott, vice president, Macromedia. “It’s good to see that WebTrends solutions are addressing this issue, so business users can justify the return on their Flash investments.”
With WebTrends solutions, marketers are able to answer many questions about the effectiveness of their Flash applications, including:
- How often are Flash applications viewed and how engaging is the content? Do visitors view all of the Flash content? If not, where do they drop out?
- If the entire site is Flash-based, how do visitors navigate through the site?
- How effectively does the Flash content convert visitors? Does it persuade a user to take a desired action?
- What percentage of visitors that view Flash content are repeat visitors? How does this compare to other content on your web site? Which Flash applications are driving users with the highest lifetime value?
“Siemens has been utilizing Flash as a marketing tool for some time, but we have been unable to measure visitor activity within these applications,” said Chris Brubaker, eBusiness Manager at the Enterprise Networks division of Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc. “By using the new WebTrends Developer Kit for Macromedia Studio MX 2004, we are now able to determine the ROI on our Flash application. After just a short time, we already have a better understanding of its effectiveness, such as how many people are progressing through the content, completing a desired action or conversion, and we can compare our Flash site to other content on our web site to determine overall effectiveness.”
“Today, Flash applications are widely accepted as a rich web marketing tool, but their inability to be easily tracked has left marketers in the dark about their actual effectiveness,” said Jason Palmer, senior director of WebTrends Products at NetIQ. “Our developer kit is meant to alleviate the barriers to tracking Flash, so business managers can understand the return on investment from their costly Flash applications and better justify expenditures.”
