Louisa County Public School Division Selects NetIQ Voice and Video Management Solution

Rural School District Uses Vivinet Manager to Drastically Reduce Time Spent Monitoring VoIP System

David Cantwell, coordinator of technology at Louisa County Public School Division, selected Vivinet Manager to help solve intermittent and inconsistent call quality problems experienced by administrators and teachers, including dropped calls, echo and lost voicemail. These problems were difficult to track, causing Cantwell to spend 30 to 40 percent of each day working to determine the cause of these issues. Since implementing Vivinet Manager, call quality problems are almost entirely gone and the time spent managing VoIP has drastically decreased. Now, nine times out of 10 when issues do occur, Cantwell is already working on correcting them before users complain.

"Before installing Vivinet Manager we were unable to solve the mysterious issues or determine reasons for the inconsistencies," said Cantwell. Cantwell deployed a pure VoIP system to achieve the highest call quality for the entire district using Cisco Systems' CallManager IP PBX, and Cisco Unity voicemail servers, with 150 Cisco IP phones and approximately 200 Cisco IP soft phones at five locations.

Cantwell asked systems integrator, AAC Associates, to help evaluate management solutions on the market and they chose NetIQ's solution because it provided the broadest management for their complex integrated phone and voice mail system. Upon installation, Cantwell was able to immediately find a bad port on a major switch that was causing jitter, packet loss and call quality problems. He was also able to troubleshoot several voicemail performance issues and track usage, including how many messages were building up in the system.
