NetIQ Ships First Security Management Solution for Microsoft Operations Manager 2000
Expands Centralized Security Product to Manage Cisco Secure PIX Firewall and Internet Security Systems (ISS) RealSecure
NEW ORLEANS, LA
At the Microsoft TechEd Conference, NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of e-business infrastructure management and intelligence solutions, today announced the availability of the new NetIQ® Security Management Pack™ (SMP) for Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM), a suite of three modules that address security event monitoring and integration, and a new version of Security Manager™ 3.5, a central console for real-time security incident management and automated response. New to Security Manager 3.5 is support for Cisco Secure PIX Firewall and Internet Security Systems (ISS) RealSecure. NetIQ will be demonstrating both the SMP for MOM and Security Manager 3.5 at the NetIQ booth #801.
Because internal and external security breaches often result in significant downtime, loss of revenue and critical data, SMP for MOM extends the MOM console to allow existing users to perform intrusion detection, security event monitoring and reporting for Microsoft Windows and Internet Information Services (IIS). This extension also enables MOM to react to security threats in real time to protect critical systems and data, resulting in higher availability, increased productivity and greater ROI on both the investment in MOM and SMP for MOM. SMP for MOM includes three Extended Management Pack modules:
- XMP™ for Microsoft Windows Security - provides out-of-the-box security knowledge for Windows and IIS security event monitoring and response.
- XMP™ for NetIQ® Security Analyzer™ - allows Security Analyzer to be monitored by MOM and forwards vulnerability events that result from Security Analyzer scans back into MOM.
- XMP™ ModuleSet for Anti-Virus Applications - integrates MOM directly with Symantec/Norton, Trend Micro and NAI/McAfee anti-virus applications.
"Customers are looking to use Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) for many different aspects of managing their Windows-centric enterprises," said David Hamilton, director of the Management Product Business Group at Microsoft Corporation. "We are excited that NetIQ is extending MOM to provide security management capabilities for operations staff charged with maintaining critical systems."
The common practice of installing non-integrated point security products without a central management system to consolidate, correlate and manage security information often results in a costly, inefficient and insecure way of protecting the company's assets. Security Manager is enterprise-scalable to thousands of servers, workstations and security sensors and enables information security professionals to fully integrate and leverage security events from other security solutions operating in the enterprise. The integration of NetIQ Security Manager's incident management capabilities with the critical perimeter security services provided by Cisco Secure PIX Firewall and vulnerability assessment services provided by ISS helps information security professionals ensure proper firewall configuration and automated responses to security incidents, maximizing the efficiency and protective capabilities of their enterprise.
"NetIQ continues to enhance and connect the building blocks necessary to provide a proactive security shield across the entire enterprise-whether you're deploying Windows or managing a heterogeneous environment," said Scott Hollis, director of security products at NetIQ. "Our unique strategy enables IT administrators and information security professionals to manage their security defenses from a central console and provides them with the tools necessary to proactively eliminate security threats."
